~Star's POV~
So. I am stuck here for the next seven hours, with two others.
How did I get myself into this in the first place? Oh...
Kirby's snored. It sounds exactly like when I first found him. "He looks exactly like how I first met him..." I murmur.
"How exactly did you meet Kirby?" Meta Knight asks, turning from the entrance of the cave to face me. "Oh. I'm sure I told someone... but nevermind." I sweat drop at the sleeping puffball, who stirred.
~Storytime!~
~Star's POV~
It had been a couple years after the Star Warrior Army had accepted me to help them with the war against Nightmare.
I had just been put on patrol duty and was near the entrance of a base. Actually, it was more like an extremely wide, house-like building... but nevermind.
A couple of Nightmare's monsters had showed up, and I fought them, before some fled, and some... were defeated. As I watched one of them degrade, I heard a sharp cry. I wasn't sure what it was, but it was coming from the front of the base.
I had my sword firm in my hand, and noticed a small basket. I cautiously checked inside it, and found a baby puffball! I turned around to see if anyone was nearby, but, even if there was, I couldn't see anyone.
I let the baby out of the basket, it looked around a couple months old, and it began running in different directions. Then a monster came and tried attacking it, but I quickly sent swordbeams before it could harm the baby.
It then yawned and fell asleep next to me, so I picked it up, tightened my cape around me, and then went inside the base, "Whatcha doing...?" Galacta Knight asked, "Huh? Oh- nothing, could you cover for me tonight? I have to take care of something." I somehow managed to warp upstairs to the room I slept in.
I put the baby on the bed, and sat on a chair, wondering what to do. It was too dangerous to bring up a child here, there's literally monsters everywhere, but it was too far to get back to the local city...
In the end, I decided to let the baby stay. Then I could discuss what to do in the morning, because most likely the others would be there.
~In The Morning~
I yawned, and got up. The baby was still sound asleep, thank goodness. It woke up like, five times last night and fortunately I don't get enough sleep anyway, so I was completely fine staying up a quarter of the night. (Altogether anyway.)
I put on my mask and gloves, and my sword sheathed herself quietly. The baby woke up and I suppose it must have been hungry, for it started complaining and tugged at my cape.
I gave it an apple, and it inhaled it within seconds, and I smiled, leading it downstairs. "We were wondering when you'd come downstairs. It's like, ten o'clock." Sir Falspar looked at me. I would have risen earlier... but-" I broke off, placing the baby in front of me, as it began trying to eat my cape... ¬_¬
"DHJSKDHS! Star what is a baby doing here?!" Galacta Knight asked, and before I could reply, Sir Nonsurat questioned, "It isn't your child, is it?"
I felt my face heat up as they laughed, but they looked at me seriously. "This baby is not my child! It was left here yesterday. Which is why Galacta took over my shift." I look at her for confirmation, and she nods, "Yep, she did ask me to."
"And it isn't your kid either, Galacta?" Sir Nonsurat provoked, "Most children are afraid of me. Besides, didn't you hear Star? It was left here, yesterday."
"What are we supposed to do about this child then?" Sir Dragato asked, and before anyone could say anything, "We can't send it back to the city, nor to our planet. It would take too long, and not even we could survive a trip that long without feeling nauseous." I reminded, and they think for a while.
"What are you all looking so thoughtful for? The only time you are seen like that is when something serious has occurred." Sir Arthur came in with Meta Knight.
"What is a child doing here?" Meta Knight asked. "Star found... him? Her? Yesterday, and now we dunno what to do with... it...?" Galacta looked at me, "What?" "What?" "+_+"
"Poyo." the child said suddenly, and we looked at it. "Poy." it repeated. I blinked twice, before turning to the others, "What do we do with the child?" "We certainly can't send it anywhere... not even with an escort... We shall let it stay. But someone must be it's guardian." Sir Arthur looked at me and Galacta. "We haven't dealt with children before. And I am sure in your training with the other females, they told y-" "Yep. Yep yep yep. We know all that. Do not repeat it." Galacta interrupted, and added, "Star can look after it, I skipped half the course anyway." she said smugly.
"What?" she looked at the others, who gave her a disapproving look. "It's fine. I can try." I said, and the child walked up to Galacta, and walked around her, "What's it doing?" she asked, and I respond, "Making sure you aren't the enemy. Which can be debatable." I smiled as she looks at me with a glare, and then says to the child, "I am no enemy whatsoever."
The child instantly runs under my cape, and Sir Falspar snorted, "'E ain't think so. Going to have to try harder than that, Galacta."
"At least it already feels safe around Star. I helped in a way." Galacta huffed, and asked, "We can't keep calling it... it or the child. What is it's name and gender?"
"Poy." the child says, and I turn to the others, "He is a boy." "Kaiiiby!" "Kirby?" "Kaiby!" the child nods. "Well, that's his name now! Kirby. Why does that sound familiar?" Galacta asked, and I rolled my eyes, "This is what happens when you skip, as you said, half the course."
Kirby suddenly fell asleep, leaning on my side. "Star should be sleeping. I swear I heard a kid like ten times last night..." Sir Nonsurat shook his head, "I'm completely fine. He's literally a baby, so he'll need at least four hours of sleep extra a day." I calculated.
"Are you guys still in here? Seriously, you were pestering me and Black to get up early, and now you're not even on patrol." a knight... who is also female, popped her head roound the door, "Now you listen here, Merla, I-" I was about to march towards my friend, but she notices Kirby, and runs inside the room and fawns over him, "Aww, he's so cute!" she awes, and then sees my face, "Not the right time?" "No." I facepalm, and she asks, "Why didn't you tell me you had a kid? Oh Star Dream, wait till I tell Black and your mother and-" "Ten seconds to run, my good friend." I say, placing Kirby on the sofa, and then go after her.
"Galacta, you take care of Kirby for the time being." I call, and she groans loudly, expressing she does not want to.
~End Of Story~
"I remember that. After you left we did not know what happened to dear Merla." Meta Knight laughs, "Oh, I made her sorry. But it wasn't too severe, only got my sword to teleport us to the ends of the world and then explained everything." I shrug, and look outside.
"I think that snow is even more heavy than any other Snowfall day, it appears to want to keep us here." Meta Knight says, and adds, "The weather is showing me why I should not have run from the castle in the first place... even though I am a danger."
"Meta Knight, you are not a danger. If you were, Kirby would not have fallen asleep here, if he thought he wasn't safe, anyway. And I would not have obliged to stay in this cave if I thought you were dangerous. We trust you much more than what you would expect." I say, blushing at how much is actually coming out from me, and what is coming out by itself.
"Still... Lockra could appear at any minute to control me." "And if so then I will help you exactly like I did last time. You do trust Kirby and I, don't you?" I question, and Meta Knight is silent.
"Hmm..." he responds, "What did you say?" I tease, "Yes, of course I trust you... and Kirby, as well as the others." he says, eyes pink.
"See, trust is a very important thing." I conclude, and he nods, "You are still very persistent..." he states, "When I have to be I am." I smile, and notice his eyes turn a faint purple, before returning to their pink hue. Strange... I have never seen the colour purple before...
