Tapping his foot on the floor nervously, Jungkook checked his watch- 3:40.
She should have arrived by now.
They had made plans to meet there, at a private café. To be completely honest, he was terrified. He didn't expect her to even answer his call, but she seemed...fine. She had talked to him as if she'd seen him the day before, and it confused him to bits.
3:41...3:42...
"Jungkook-ah."
There she was. She was wearing a plaid jumper with a fresh-pleated skirt, a white bucket hat hiding the top of her face, but her bright smile was unmistakable. And she was smiling at him.
"Liz." He stood up, not sure what to do. She giggled.
"How've you been?" he asked awkwardly, ignoring his rapidly accelerating heartbeat.
"Okay. But I've missed you a lot," Lisa shrugged, her baby voice coming out naturally.
"I...I've missed you too." Jungkook motioned her to her seat and sat down himself. "Do you want to order something?"
A few minutes later, they both had their orders in front of them. He observed her as she played with her straw quietly.
"Hey," he said softly. She looked up at him. "I'm sorry for letting us grow apart for so long. And I'm sorry about the fake news, I should have stopped it sooner-"
"It's fine. I knew you weren't together." Lisa sipped from her drink. "Maybe it was silly of me, not keeping contact with you and everything."
Jungkook hesitated.
"Would you still take me back?" he asked quietly. Lisa looked at him, surprised.
"What? I thought you-" she coughed. "I thought I already had...?"
Jungkook stared at her.
"By meeting you here," she insisted.
"You...huh?"
She burst into fits of laughter and shook her head, before moving to sit close to him.
"I'm sorry. I'll work on my communication skills. I just thought you'd assume so, being a guy and all..." Lisa paused and smiled affectionately at him. "Would you take me back, then?"
"I mean, of course, that's all I want. But I thought you'd be mad at me."
"For what, exactly? Look at you. You've grown. We both have. I think it's time we stopped all the drama, don't you?"
Jungkook grinned, barely believing her words.
"We're back together, then?"
"Do you want me to pull out a ring or some shit?"
Laughing, Jungkook pulled her onto his lap and held her tightly in a hug.
Of course she'd be like this. It's Lisa.
"Were you torturing yourself this whole time?" Lisa muttered into his neck.
"Maybe," Jungkook admitted. "It just seemed so final. I thought you were better off without me."
"Idiot. I had to cook for myself these four years."
"Is that all I am to you? A chef?" He teased her.
"Yes?"
He chuckled and messed up her bangs to get back at her.
"I missed your smile."
"I missed you too, but stop being cheesy. Anyways, let's eat."
"Aish. Always thinking about food."
All he could think about that day was that she was his again. And this time, he wasn't letting her go, because he finally realized what he had been missing.
The way she had welcomed him so easily wasn't weakness. It was strength. She had always been one step ahead, knowing what they both needed. She had waited patiently.
And the more time passed, after they got married, and had children, and grew old together, he knew he was happy. Lisa was the missing piece. Lisa had fixed him.
All along, it was her.
