"They're your stuff."
"Doesn't matter."
"Clear up or I'll get you replaced." Swati reiterated making Mehek roll her eyes, "Like you can live without me."
She mocked and flopped down on the bed. Swati nodded in negation and sighed. They were going over this again. For like the hundredth time.
Mehek had just moved into be her roommate, she just got into the college while Swati was in the fourth year already.
And instead of settling in and clearing up, she preferred to have late lunch and an early nap.
It was nothing new to Swati, it was a common habit of Mehek to be lazy.
"Okay fine, let's make a deal." Swati offered and Mehek rolled closer to where she sat on the bed. She propped her face with her hands.
"What's your best offer?" Swati pulled her nose, making her goggle. "I'm waiting..." She sing-sung.
"Okay, I clear up your stuff..."
"As always." Mehek muttered.
"And you come with me for a swim." Swati completed.
"Hmmm....Lemme think about it." She paused, "No!"
"Scaredy cat." Swati mumbled and alighted the bed. She knew even if she argued days and nights with Mehek, she wasn't going to budge. So she just had to clean up.
"What did you just call me?" She immediately sat upright.
"You heard me..... Scaredy cat. You're just scared of the water. That's why you don't wanna come with me, scaredy cat." Swati figured how to play her cards to get her own way too. She knew Mehek was never going to back down on a challenge.
"I'm not scared. Don't you dare say that again, Swati or there will be blood." She threatened and Swati laughed, "Then prove it, scaredy cat."
"Fine!" Swati laughed even more seeing as her plan worked perfectly. She just wanted the company of her sister always, it always made her happy.
What made her the happiest was the fact that Mehek was finally in the college, no more over frequent visits.
Though they'd still visit their mom at their free time, it was different when Mehek wasn't with her. Their bond was way beyond the physical relationship bit now a heart to heart bond.
"Okay, get ready, I doubt many people would be there."
The college was relatively large and they were a lot of free ground. There was also a river by the side where students swam occasionally. The sandy shore made it look more like a beach. It was more like a relaxing spot on weekends and free days.
"Ugh! I hate this. It's so hot." Mehek complained as they approached their destination.
"That's why we're gonna swim. To cool down. But that's only for smart people to understand." Swati pulled Mehek's legs.
"You must not like your pretty face anymore. Allow me distort." She formed a fist with her hand to signify her point and Swati only rolled her eyes, "Like you could ever hurt me." She mocked using same tactics as Mehek.
She smiled and retreated her hand.
It was so true though, Swati had become too indispensable for her. After all, she was one of the only people Mehek had beside her, then her mum and Mohit. And she knew she loved them even more than life in itself. Scratch that, they were her life.
"I doubt many people would be there." Mehek mimicked Swati in a shrill tone, obviously trying to point out the fact that it was almost full when they finally got there.
"Everyone is doing their own thing. So it doesn't matter." She defended.
They finally found a spot to sit. They talked and laughed til Swati decided it was time to swim. Mehek nodded in negation. It wasn't like she couldn't swim but it wasn't among her list of endowments. So it wasn't something she was gonna off.
"Please, at least walk over there with me." She gestured to the shore, the sand right in front of the water.
After much persuasion, she agreed. Mehek watched Swati swim. With Swati occasionally splashing water on Mehek and a little laughter.
"Wait here, I'll be back." Swati said as their laughter died down. Mehek nodded while she swam further to a group of people.
Mehek stood staring at the water, she immersed her bare feet in it. The small current against her toes tickled her.
Then a slight scream was heard, she was in the water. The shock of the situation wasn't much help as she struggled to breathe and come out of the water.
Suddenly she felt a pair of arms lifting her up. Everything was blur for a while but she was sure she was out of the water already as her back touched the hot sand.
"Are you alright?" She faintly heard the voice and nodded.
"Thank you." She mumbled softly.
"Shaurya, get over here." He looked up to see Karan calling out to him from a distance.
He didn't want to leave her until he was sure she was conscious but he had to go.
"Mehek, Mehek!" Swati's worried voice followed immediately as she rushed up to Mehek. "Thank you so much." She folded her hands and thanked Shaurya. He was sure she was in safe hands so he decided to leave. He slowly stood up.
"It was no problem. Take good care of her." Swati nodded at the stranger who had just saved her sister. Fear of anything happening to Mehek ever drained her face colour.
*********
"I'm fine, it's okay."
"I'm sorry." Swati was apologizing for like the thousandth time since they got back. Mehek was already begging her to stop. But it wasn't everyday you'd get to see your loved ones in the trouble you unintentionally out them in.
"Please stop apologizing." Mehek begged as she walked out of the bathroom in a new pair of clothes, after taking off the soaked wet ones.
"What happened anyway?" Swati became curious.
"I guess someone pushed me? I guess?" She too wasn't sure how she fell into the water, it all happened so fast.

So here's the first chapter
It's short though
I know that, I don't like first chapter to be so long
I was thinking of making a steady schedule for updates
For you - Sundays and Wednesdays
Addicted - Tuesdays and Fridays
Saturday for necessary editing
If you're not okay, I could still make adjustments
