- Danny, do you understand that you ate the most precious and ancient jewel of our world? And that it’s actually the only item that keeps the Dimension alive? - asked Ava, trying to breath deep.
- Yes, ma’am. - mumbled Danny.
- And do you know that as long as the Ocean of Friendship is in your stomach I can’t perform the Friendship Ceremony?
- Yes.
- Good, then… - Ava sighed.Danny stared at her, keeping his ears lowered.
He was conscious that such trouble was worthy of prison, or even worse: swallowing the Jewel instead of just catching it had just been an incident, of course, but it was the biggest incident of the History of Pocket Kingdom, after Eva’s overthroning attempt. His intentions weren’t harmful, he was just trying to save the princess.
When they arrived at the Magic Fountain and saw Ava jumping, they had no time to think: both he and William reacted by training, just like someone suggested what to do.
They wanted to stop the cat from grabbing the Ocean with her paws, but William arrived first and jumped in her direction with all his strength.
He pointed to his loved Ava, after all…
Danny hesitated and understood how close the jewel and the obelisk were.
They all knew exactly what could happen in case of contact. William and Ava were on the Fountain… he had no other choice.
He jumped and took it in his mouth, making sure to not break it.
Then, he wasn’t sure about what happened. All the chaos, the pets screaming, Mela’s desperate calling Ava’s name, someone saying something about her heart beating… After a few seconds he was standing next to William, trying to calm him down.Funny, wasn’t it?
The leader was usually the one who scolded him, asking to keep calm.
William was just in panic, terrified for the princess.
It must have been when the diamond wasn’t in his mouth anymore. This action of bravery cost him to become all suddenly a criminal.
He wondered if William would have done such a disaster, if he was in his place. The Golden Retriever was more smart and rapid, more reflexive and rational than him, the best in everything and of course better than him. He could never swallow a jewel. He’d had just spit it out.
The Mastiff felt a deep regret: he wished he was just like William, as all the other two Guards. He couldn’t understand what he was doing in the Royal Guards team, how a dumb and naive dog found himself in an army of warriors, trained to protect a Monarch.
He also couldn’t get why Ava wasn’t crazily yelling to him, as he expected her to.
Her jewel was in his stomach, she had all the reasons to do it.She could order to close him in prison, or force him to get the surgery despite the risk of death. She could even beat him up, as Steel Wool did, he’d deserve it.
Why wasn’t she? He’d almost rather it, than seeing her like that.
She was even calm, observing him with her blue eyes hurted by pain and concern.
Her looking… was so sad.
He read what they were saying despite she hadn’t said it: he disappointed her. He disappointed everybody: William, Balloon, Mela, Steel Wool…Even the rain appeared to be crying on his pathetic actions.
- I’m sorry, princess. - whined, looking down to the floor to avoid her eyes - I will do that surgery, if this is what you want.
- No way! - said Ava, a bit loudly - you heard the doctor, it’s too dangerous. You may…
- I know, but… I mean, it’s the diamond. It’s too important, isn’t it?
- It is. - Ava lied like a sphynx and raised her ears - But I’m not going to sacrifice someone for this. Is it going to go out normally? Good, then. Let it happen. No one will die.
- So you agree with the doctor? - Danny started wagging his tail, relieved.
- Yes, I do.
