Eva opened her eyes again.
Something cold tightened around her neck cut off the warming safeness of blankets.
A sharp pain blinded her mind after a few instants and drowned down her thoughts. As always, she just suffocated it and bit the pillow, trying her best to not make a single cry or distressed face.
She was used, after all.In her life had to hide her own feelings and injuries because, in the cruel environment she grew up in, showing weakness was a shame.
In the majestic and precious castle, only gorgeous and perfect dolls were welcome.
That “acceptance” was as choiking as sand, and that castle itself was made of sand: only one wave of truth was enough to crash that toxic place down. Covering it up was the better choice, according to those people.- You’re awake again. - said a male voice on her right side.
She blinked and slowly realized who the big animal with cream fur, which was always been there since she woke up for the first time, was:
- And the f...first thing I see... is... your ugly… s.. snout, William. - groaned the cat, using all her energy to make sarcasm.- Spare your breath, disgusting terrorist. You need it to confess.
- Is… annoying sick animals… Royal Guards’ new hobby…? - was the siamese cat’s answer.
- Shut up. - said Mela, walking on William’s side.Eva tried to move, but another twinge of pain paralyzed her.
This time she couldn’t mask it and whined.A smaller figure, a gray bunny, eyed to the drip hanged above her head, but didn't move a single paw: maybe the doctor of the Castle decided that a criminal wasn’t worth a right dose of painkillers.
- Now don’t make us waste precious time - growled again William - What do you know about Musika?
A different kind of pain took off Eva’s breath.
A memory flashed into her mind, faded, found in the middle of the fog created by the coma: a forest, a painting in the castle, the ballroom dirty of blood, a kitty’s voice lost through trees…- What… should I know?
- I don’t know, maybe… the reason why you murdered your half-sister?
- I… - Eva swallowed - don’t know what you’re talking about.
- Don’t lie, you mentioned it in Kate’s bedroom.- Kate… - Eva opened wide her eyes and looked all around: he was right, she was in the human girl’s bedroom. Why was she there, now? What happened?
- Why.. am I here?- You have to thank your sister, because if it depended to us you’d still be in the Big City, dead.
- Ava… -Pain suddenly weakened.
- Where is she?
- Out of your business.
- I can smell her scent, she’s been here…
- Don’t you try to change the topic, Eva.
- I need to talk with her… she needs to know…
- Ah, do you really think we’ll allow you to approach her again? - William laughed, even though he wasn’t either a bit amused - You’ll see her only to bow and wait for your punishment, for what you did to her. You don’t deserve any forgiveness from her. Believe me, you’ll get the higher penalty. it’s a promise.Eva closed her eyes and stared at the darkness inside, trying to see something through them. Maybe a future, maybe something concrete that reality didn’t want to offer.
- I don’t care.
- Ah, don’t you? You will when you’ll end up closed into a cage for the rest of your life.
- I’ve always been into a cage… - murmured the cat. That word brought back the view of metallic bars, which were the only thing she was allowed to see for months, during her time at the Petbuster’s house. Then, flames and the adrenaline of a run to life, the feeling of walking a tightrope, between living and dying. That escape had been the second most dangerous attempt to save herself that she ever made. it was going to be the fatal failure, if it wasn’t for Krakia.
