Eva opened her eyes.

The white void that she saw was faded, scattered into undefined darker spots that confused her sightlike she was underwater.
Some noises sounded like they were playing miles away, mixed with the heartbeats that she could feel into her ears, but it was impossible for her to understand what they were.

She blinked several times, then reality slowly got less confused.
The first at welcoming her had been a soft pain all around her paws and a deeper one, which made breathing more difficult.

A champagne-shaded spot moved between her and the whiteness so fastly that Eva almost got scared.
She tried to stand up, but something blocked her.

It was the instant her nose appeared to start working again and the scents spreaded from her nostrils to her brain. First of all, hers.

- You’re awake, idiotic cat! - said Alice’s voice.
Eva eventually brought her sight into focus and saw her purple furious eyes, very close to her body.

- What… What happened…? - mumbled the cat, slowly moving her paws under the warm blanket that was covering her.
- You almost died, brainless potato! You fainted in the corridor and risked a coma again! If it wasn’t for me and your friend Guard, now you would happily happily mind your own business in the afterlife! - screamed the dog - You see why I told you that doing that stupid rytual was a bad idea?! When will you listen to me, when it comes to your health?!

- R-rytual…? - Eva’s mind slowly started filling with thoughts, trying to organize the millions of pieces of information.

She slowly started rebuilding the events of the evening: her room, the deks… Alice breaking her ball down… Mrs Penny beating them up with a broom… the plushie, the potion, the ball of light… Talia’s eyes…

This last picture made her jump, landing backward on her pillow. Alice immediately grabbed her and kept her immoble while getting on the bed and standing above her.
Eva stared at her like an injured kitty, wondering the reason for that topping action.

- You said you were okay, you dipstick! You promised!  - screamed the dog - And then I found you dragging yourself across a stupid corridor before fainting! Can you at least imagine how scared I got?! I feared you were gone!

- I’m sorry… - mumbled Eva, intimidated.
- You'd better be! From now you’ll never leave this Infirmary,I’ll never leave you alone a single instant and I swear to any stupid goddess existing that you’ll regret any lie about your health!
- Alright. - mouthed the cat.

They stared at each other for a long instant, keeping their snouts only a few centimeters from each other’s.
Their warm breaths united in only one, the point where Alice’s paws touched Eva’s back and shoulders felt hot like burned iron. She could hear a low growl coming from the dog’s throat and chest, but her teeths weren’t uncovered.

After a time that felt much longer than how it really was, Alice got back to the floor and kicked one of the pillows, furious.
- Damn it, Eva! - said.

Eva lied on her chest and looked around.
They were back in the Infirmary and it seemed to be the middle of the night.
Torches and chandeliers projected other shadows on the wall around the windows, which made her know that they weren’t alone: Danny was laying on his bed, keeping his front paws united and his ears back, intimidated by the cream dog’s fury.
