Kayl entered the cavern.Darkness was almost total there, just like a place isolated for the rest of the world.
Not a single sound reached the naked rocks, except for his breaths and steps. The Great Dane could barely see where the walls were and where the way was free, but he knew exactly where to go: their canine smell was perfectly trained to not let a single trace escape, and he could recognize the scent of death and poison from miles. It was impossible to confuse.
His instinct just confirmed what that feeling was telling: the creature hidden in there, the child of a demon with the body of a skeleton, was the death itself.
A monster, a beast, an evolution alien, whatever it wanted to be, was there and was lethal.
It was hard to define, looking at it, but he had no doubt. He wasn't scared, oh no. He was trained to not be scared.
He felt the danger, but he wasn't going to run away.
The risk was zero, after all. He exactly had to be there. Finally, he saw the light.
A small, round object which resembled a lamp was lighting a small space on the floor. Its warmness hit the cold ceiling, where neither bats lived anymore.- I'm here. - barked.
He could feel its presence.
The creature was hidden in the darkness, wrapped into its weird, cold skin.
Eyes didn't reflect the light, just like foxes ones.It stared at the dog for a couple of seconds, then something made a metallic noise.
- Are you here for your boss' behalf? - asked the raspy and icy voice.- Yes. - nodded the dog.
- Do you have news about your friends beasts?
- Princess Ava is planning a new trip, as you already know.
- Yes. I wonder why she hasn't left yet, maybe you're trying to joke me?
- No, sir. Her sister is sick and she interrupted the mission to take care of her.- Is the other Felis Aulicus awake? Is she alive?
- Her conditions are improving...
- I don't care about her health. I asked if she's alive.
- Yes, she is.
- Good then. - the creature moved her front legs in a very unnatural way - I was afraid she didn't make it through the fire, I thought I lost her. I'm glad she isn't dead, so now I'll take both the feles aulicus.- About the third one, I still didn't get enough information. The princess doesn't talk about her with us.
- Try to discover more. If she's alive, I need that cat and her diamond.
- I will do my best, sir. Now I only know that she may have been in the countryside.
- Good. Let me know when you're going to leave. I will follow you very closely.
- Yes.- Also, I have a message for your boss. - the creature moved toward and light reached its face. The angel of death's face.
Kayl made a step back, unready for such a view.- Yes?
- If one of you makes a single thing that will make you suspect about your loyalty, our pact will be screwed and you all will pay the consequences. The dog nodded, keeping tail between legs.
- Go, now. Someone may notice your missing. I'll wait for more information.
- Yessir. - the dog lowered his head and walked back.
He fastly got the furthest away without giving his back to the monster, then turned and ran out of that cave.
He hadn't realized it was that much small, but if it was for him it could be the door of hell.He found himself in the woods.
Birds, unaware of everything, were singing on the trees all around.
Sky was blue and white with clouds, and the wind was cold.He had to go back to the Castle.
The dog started walking.
Something was about to change in Pocket Kingdom. He could only make sure that it wasn't at his own damage.
