-Hurry, the keys!
Balloon stared at the silver-pointed siamese cat with a surprised face. Her blue eyes shone like a storm that breaks on the ocean's waves, reflecting the rings of lights around the Magic Fountain like broken thunderbolts.
She recognized in them the same power and strength of the one that hit the obelisk only a few seconds before.
They were teary, but those tears burnt more than liquid fire. She turned to her grandmother, terribly worried and filled with fear into her bones.
Seeing her loved grandma being crashed behind by the explosion was enough to put a limit to any other thought, from the keys to Eva's request.
Ito stood up with difficult and turned her head all around, terrified. She couldn't see, she had no way to understand what was going on.
-Balloon! - called - Balloon, where are you?!
-I'm here, I'm alright! Are you hurt?!
The elder tabby turned to the source of the loved one's voice, opening wide her broken eyes in relief. They seemed to be two stars while reflecting the light all around. This appeared to give her more strength than anything else before: she lowered her head and smelt the ground, looking for the keys she dropped while falling.
She found them a few steps from her, then walked back until touching William's cage.
She raised on the hind paws and began climbing on the bars, reaching the top in a very little time.
She followed her granddaughter's scent and voice until reaching her box.
She made a sweet, big and bright smile of complicity to her.
Balloon smiled back in the same way, despite knowing she couldn't be seen. She took the keys from Ito's mouth and then tried to pull it into the hole.
The first one didn't fit.
The second neither.
The next ones didn't either.
-Damn, I can't open!
She knew to be wasting precious time, to be putting them all in danger, but this thought didn't help. Neither her trained and self-imposed control of Royal Guard and independent cat could make her move her paws in a rational way, so she just ended up swearing against the hole itself.-Balloon, give me the keys!
She turned once again to Eva.
Her eyes were even more determined, but also changed into a different shade: she was begging her.Balloon hesitated.
She didn't even know why she did it, but moving her paw took more than a few seconds.-Please!
The tabby shook her head and took the lucidity back.
Since the cage between them had been moved by Kayl and a too huge empty space separated them, she understood that her grandmother couldn't take the keys to Eva that easily.
She strengthened her paw between bars and landed them on the other cat.
-Careful, take it!
Eva did the same, trying to catch the set. They were too distant. It was a risk, it was all they could do:
Balloon threw them.In that moment, something happened right above the Magic Fountain: the pentacle drawn by the obelisk, the Diamonds and Danny stopped glowing.
The lines got thin before they interrupted their run to each other, and the figure got broken. From her cage, Ava made a loud breath, just like she was finally able to breath well. Eva felt the dizziness disappearing from her body too, due to the end of the rytual.
The three stones and the English Mastiff fell down from several meters of height.
The Petbuster stood right in his place, staring at all of this happening without being able to move a single finger to stop it.
-What's up?The Diamonds and Danny landed on the crystallized water inside the fountain.
The diamonds jingled like broken glasses, a high sound of damage that iced everyone's blood through the silence of the night.
Danny's falling, instead, was surely different: the huge dog crashed against the thin layer and broke it with a horrible noise.
The layer imploded into the bottom of the flower-shaped monument and made a huge hole where he landed. Where it was cut, pure water began running out like transparent blood.
