ADIA
Houston, Texas
Verse One, Chapter Fourteen

Sitting alone on Africa's couch Adia played with her fingertips in anxiousness. Kasir had texted and told her that he landed in Houston and was on his way about 20 minutes ago. Africa wanted to give them some privacy so she took Nola to the park and out to some fancy restaurant to eat. Adia was grateful for that because between her phone ringing off the hook and Facebook mentions going crazy, the last thing she wanted was Africa here while she was trying to discuss business.

The sound of the doorknob turning made Adia jump up and her eyes dart towards the door. Kasir slowly walked inside of the house, his eyes scanning the place until landing on her. She cocked her head to the side wondering why the hell didn't he knock and what made him think he could just enter somebody's house like that. But she didn't say anything and allowed him to speak first.

"This yours?" He looked at a picture with Africa and Nola laughing. "Who is this?"

"This isn't my house, it's my friend's so please stop touching stuff." Kasir was used to getting what he wanted and she knew that. But he had to understand that she had boundaries. She would never go inside of his or his friend's home and just start touching everything and she expected the same from him.

"Hmm," He hummed walking over and taking a seat beside Adia. "You Adia my patience with you is running really really thin." She didn't say a word as she sat back down and faced him. The butterflies that she felt when she looked at him were still there and she hated it.

"Have you seen everybody's talking about you though?" She perked up at that and quickly shook her head. "Yeah, all the big hip-hop news sources are talking about. You're a trending topic but not just for your singing. See it has been brought to my attention that somebody just got into a fight with their mother at some dirty-ass strip club. You wanna tell me about that?"

Adia felt like a bad child who just got sent to the principal's office. Kasir's voice was so stern and she didn't want to say anything wrong but she also wasn't about to pretend to be sorry when she wasn't.

"Yeah, what about it?" Now it was his turn to look surprised.

"What about it? Adia you can't be out here acting like some fucking hoodrat fighting the woman that gave birth to you in a strip club. That's bad for my brand."

"You're bad for your brand!" She blurted out before she knew it. "You've gotten into fights too so I'm not the only one."

"I have a fucking name for myself I can do that. I don't need a damn handout or anybody's help but you do. And if you don't start watching that mouth you gon be in some serious trouble real soon." Looking into his eyes she saw that she had crossed the line.

"I'm sorry," She sighed. "I'm sorry. These last couple of months it's been one thing after the other and every time things start to look up the universe trips my ass and make me fall dead on my face. I'm so tired," She let out a shaky breath as tears clouded her vision. The last thing she wanted to do in front of this man was cry she felt so embarrassed.

"We all have those moments," Her eyes shot up surprised at the softness in his voice. "But you know what they say? When everything starts to fall apart that's how you know that greatness is coming. You're strong Adia and you have the talent to be a big deal in this industry. You just have to want it bad enough and right now I don't think you want it bad enough. Because if you did you wouldn't keep running away when shit doesn't go your way. Life is not nice to no damn body. Doesn't matter how much money you got life just gon keep on coming but it's up to you whether you gon be pussy and run or if you gon fight. And you make me feel like I'm wasting my damn time constantly giving you chances and I'm not a man of many chances. So make up your mind Adia are you going to do this shit or not?"

"I'm ready now," She scooted up. "I wasn't ready before you're right but I'm ready now Kasir. When I was up on that stage I realized that that's where I belong," She grinned widely. "I loved performing and I swear that I'm ready now Kasir. I want this." She was prepared to work hard to get to the top. Ever since she was a little girl she's waited for an opportunity like this. Adia would no longer let anyone or anything stop her success it was time to get serious about what she wanted.

"Then let's go to the studio." Time seemed to fly by between them being at Africa's house and then being at some recording studio. She wasn't nervous but excited. While he set everything up it gave her time to check her social media accounts and he was right. She was everywhere! Everyone was talking about her performance and some even found her page. Adia had gained over 20 thousand followers and read some of the amazing comments that people were leaving her. Of course, there was some hate mixed in but she paid that no attention and just focused on the good.

"I see you reading your comments," Kasir spoke his eyes catching on to what she was doing. She smiled glancing up at him then back down at her phone. "That'll end soon."

"What do you mean? I've seen your reply to fans." She sat her phone down as he put the final touches on whatever he was doing. "I know I'll get hate I already have but it feels good seeing that people really enjoyed my performance."

"We gotta revamp your entire social media profiles too."

"So what do I get like a team to help me with all of that. Like somebody who tells me what to post and how to pose?"

"You getting a little ahead of yourself," Kasir chuckled swirling his chair and face her. "Now that'll all come a little later but right now we're focused on making your name known. You've already introduced yourself as Adia so I'm guessing no name change?"

"Nope," She shook her head. "I love my name and I'm keeping it. No last name either just ADIA," She held her hands up as she imaged her name in lights. She couldn't wait until she could headline her own show and perform for thousands of people just like Kasir. And she knew she could do it too with enough practice and somebody to believe in her and it seemed like Kasir really believed in her ability to be great.

"Can you freestyle?"

Adia shrugged, "I don't know probably."

"Adia you have to be confident in your pen game. If you not confident in yourself then other people are going to notice and they gon take you for a joke. Even if you can't freestyle you better fake it till you make it. Now I'ma ask you again, can you freestyle?"

"Yes," She nodded with a smile. Kasir nodded his head towards the booth telling her to get in. With a deep sigh, she rose up and walked inside the black box. Slipping on the headphone she stood in front of the mic and closed her eyes.

You've been waiting on this moment, Adia. Don't fuck it up. She recited to herself as Kasir's voice came through the headset.

"I'm going to play a quick beat and I want you to just say whatever comes to mind. Alright?"

"Yeah, I'm ready." If only her sisters could see her now. She knew they would be so proud of her. She hadn't talked to them since she came back to Houston and they were blowing her phone up so much she put both of them on mute. That was just something she didn't feel like dealing with or thinking about.
