"You don't think he's an axe murderer, do you?" Dallas asked as we waited for our food.

It was Saturday morning and me and Dallas were getting breakfast at Lina's Diner.

"Not this time. It would make things a lot more easier if he was though," I sighed.

When I got home after getting the pudding, Rebecca had bombed me with questions asking me what had taken me so long and what had happened to my top. I gave her vague answers and told her I was meeting Dallas for breakfast in the morning and needed to go to bed. I then cut myself a piece of pie with custard and excused myself before I headed up the stairs.

"He was just such a courteous man. Which is really aggravating because Rebecca doesn't deserve someone like that in her life. Rebecca's style is to find easy flings and go on a date with them and then usually they were never seen again. Obviously there were a few guys here or there who stuck around a while but they were all good for nothing deadbeats," I rolled my eyes. "Alex is the complete opposite of her usual type."

"Maybe Alex will be good for Rebecca," he shrugged.

"I know Alex will be good for her," I confirmed. "I just wish I could say that she would be good for him too."

"Juliet!" Someone called my name down the empty hallway. The bell signalling the end of school had gone twenty minutes ago.

Myself and Dallas had stayed behind talking to our drama teacher about this years school play that was being advertised all over the school. As well as maths and Pe, drama was another subject we both had together. Dallas was amazing at acting and we both shared a passion for it.

"Hey, wait up," that person called again.

Dallas and I turned around and saw a guy named Leon coming towards us. Unsure of what to say I have him a simple 'hey', hoping it didn't sound too awkward. I hadn't ever spoken to Leon before and I didn't have any classes with him but the guys had pointed him out to me once at lunch.

Leon was pretty good looking and had quite a few girls flustered over him. Veronica in particular. Although Veronica wanted everyone to be under her spell, Leon was the only guy she actually cared about having. The problem was that Leon just wasn't interested in her. Leon didn't ignore her the way Dallas and the guys did. Instead he was actually her friend which made things ten times worse for Veronica.

"Hey, Philip right?" Dallas asked.

"Leon, actually," he said through gritted teeth.

Dallas knew his name was Leon but since he didn't like him. He was going to annoy him in anyway possible. Dallas said it was because he walked around like everyone owed him a favour. To Dallas, Leon was the male version of Veronica.

"Anyway, Juliet," Leon said turning towards me. "I was wondering whether you wanted to go out on Friday night?Marcus Blake is having a Halloween party and I thought maybe you'd want to go with me."

I looked around uncomfortable for a moment slowly choosing the right words in my head.

I didn't want to go to a Halloween party. Instead I wanted to sit at home watching scary movies and eat junk food. Besides I certainly didn't want to go with him. Dallas didn't think Leon was a nice guy but more importantly, I wasn't interested in him in the way he must've thought I had.

"Leon, I'm really sorry it's just that I'm not into the whole Halloween party thing. Parties just aren't my stuff. I'd rather that I didn't go," I shrugged.

"We could go get dinner and maybe go see a movie instead," he suggested.

"I'm sorry," I said again. "I'm not interested in going on dates or flirting with anyone. I just want to be friends with people right now." I said. Leon didn't seem to get what I was gently saying before. Therefore there was no other way to put it.
