"I'm really sorry for the late notice," Alex's voice came from the hallway. "But I've just been called in for emergency work down at the hospital. I just hate leaving Caroline all by herself especially since I don't know when I'll be getting back. Would it be alright if Caroline stayed the night here?"
"Of course she can," Rebecca said. "You hadn't even the need to ask such a thing."
Alex thanked Rebecca and left just as quickly as he had come in.
"Hi," Caroline blushed as she walked into the living room where Matt and I were sitting.
"Hey," Matt smiled running his hand through his messed hair, clearly trying to tidy it up. "How are you?"
"I'm pretty good thanks," she said taking a seat next to Matt on the sofa. "And yourself?"
"I'm great." He grinned.
I stood up and walked over to Caroline, "Here, give me your overnight bag and I'll go put it in my room. Matt can sleep downstairs on the sofa tonight and we can share my bed."
######
Panting I woke up. It was dark and I couldn't see much apart from my alarm clock which read that it was only two am.
I rolled back overinflated my side and only then did I realise that there was no one next to me. Where was Caroline? She probably just went to the toilet or perhaps she went to get a drink from the kitchen.
I couldn't fall back asleep and gazing at my clock a whole fifteen minutes had passed and there was still no sign of Caroline.
Flinging the duvet off myself I climbed out of my bed and quietly crept into the hallway in search of Caroline.
I walked over to were the bathroom was but the door was open and turning on the blinding light I could see Caroline was not there.
I slowly tiptoed down the stairs trying hard not to wake anyone. I walked into the kitchen and there was still no sign of Caroline and I felt worried. Where else would she be?
Panicking I opened the living room door where I knew Matt would be sleeping.
I searched for the light somewhere on the wall. "Matt, I can't-" I stopped in my tracks as I turned around after turning on the lights.
"What the hell?" I said in surprise.Caroline and Matt were in what appeared to be a heated make out session and were sprawled on top of one other on the sofa.
"Juliet-" Matt started.
"It was my fault I shouldn't have come down here in the first place," Caroline blushed sheepishly.
"No need to explain," I held my hands up. "I'm going back to bed." I turned around and walked back upstairs. It wasn't even five minutes before Caroline crept back in to bed.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
"There's nothing to be sorry about," I admitted because it was true. Her and Matt weren't doing anything wrong I was just a bit surprised really. I didn't even realise they liked each other and Matt was going back to fathers house in two days.
"Honestly, I'm just sorry I walked in on it because I did not need to see either of you half naked," I laughed softly.######
I love you. Three simple words have never shocked me so much before in my entire life especially when they come out of Rebecca Manners mouth.
It's true Rebecca Manners said I love you to me and also to Matt. she apologised for everything including for what happened with Marvin and she promised to be a good mother to us and asked that we give her a second chance. Being the firm believer of second chances I am I said that I would and so did Matt.
Although it was a shame that Rebecca said this all twenty minutes before Matt's train arrived on Tuesday morning to take him back to fathers house. Matt promised he'd come back soon and I also promised that I would come visit him and father sometime soon.
"Good morning Ms Manners," I could hear Sam coming in the door downstairs.
"Good morning Sam, where are you off to today?" Rebecca asked in a cheerful mood.
"I was going to take Juliet out for lunch and then go to the movies for a while," sam said.
I ran down the stairs and hugged sam tightly. "Ready to go?" I asked as he kissed the top of my head.
"Almost," he said turning back towards Rebecca. "My parents would really like it if you came over for dinner tomorrow night at seven. Both Alex and Caroline are most welcome to join us all," Sam smiled.
"Oh how lovely of them!" Rebecca exclaimed. "Should I bring anything?"
"No Ma'am, just yourself and your family."
