I had a raging headache and I was immensely overwhelmed.
For almost seventeen years of my life, I went without knowing of my brother. I had a twin. Siblings let alone twins were supposed to stay together but that was impossible considering we never even knew of one another's existence.
I was a mixture of sad, shocked and betrayed but there was also a element of joy within.
"Juliet?" Someone called knocking on my bedrooms door.
Fathers house had many different guest bedrooms and I chose one upstairs by the very back of the house. Sam currently occupied the one next to me.
We were both settling in our stuff and getting changed as father had made reservations at a local Chinese restaurant. According to Matt they served the best sweet and sour pork he'd ever had. Sweet and sour pork was my favourite and as it turns out, it's Matt's too.
I opened the door expecting to find Sam but instead it was Matt who was standing there.
He was wearing casual jeans and a t-shirt indicating that he had changed from wearing only his pyjama bottoms from earlier.
"Can I come in?" He asked fidgeting with his hands.
"Yeah, sure," I said stepping back to let him in the spacious room. "What's up?"
"What's mum like?" He asked pausing before continuing to pace around the room.
"Rebecca?" I asked.
"Yes, what is she like?" He asked again.
"You... You haven't met her?" I asked surprised. I assumed Matt would have considering I had still seen father a few times each year. But I shouldn't have been so surprised, after all Rebecca didn't care much for others.
"I always asked dad about her but he always said she couldn't handle being a mum and she wanted to move away. I eventually just stopped asking because I knew I would just get the same response." He said frustrated but then his features went soft.
"I've never seen her Juliet," his voice shook. "I've never seen my own mum. Dad made an effort to go and see you but mum she's never made an effort to see me."
"Maybe it's a good thing," I said.
He looked up at me with a surprised expression on his face. "Why would you say that?"
"You may never have met Rebecca because she never made an effort to see you but I live with her and she still doesn't make an effort. Rebecca only does things that suit and benefit her. She doesn't think about other people's needs, only her wants. She's an ignorant and selfish person and your time should not be wasted on someone like her-".
"Ready to go?" Our father asked stepping into the room.
"Yeah, I'll just go get Sam," I said hurrying out of the room and leaving Matt.

"Merry Christmas," I heard Sam's warm voice in my ear before he softly pressed a kiss to my lips.
"What time is it?" I rubbed sleep from my eyes. I hadn't gone to bed until eleven and I know that's not really late but I felt incredibly tired.
"Almost five."
"Almost five?" I asked shocked. "Why you up this early?" I moved closer to him as he wrapped his strong arms around me.
"Because I wanted to give you your present," he said reaching behind him producing a small box, which he then handed to me. "Open it," he insisted smiling.
