Aizawa's POV

I opened up Joue's door, papers in hand. She was sat at her desk, propping her head up wit a hand on her forehead. She glanced up, past her wrist at me only to look down again.

"Hey," she said softly, reading over a piece of paper.

"Hello," I replied, pulling up a chair to sit at the opposite side of the desk. "How come you didn't come down to the teacher's lounge for lunch?"

"Didn't feel like it," she said. "Sorry, I should've texted you or something."

"Eh, it's fine. I was just wondering," I stated. I placed my papers down, looking at her again. She still hadn't looked up at all and I craned my neck slightly to try and look at her face. I still couldn't. "You alright there Joue?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," she said, picking up her head. Her hair was slightly in disarray and her skin was flushed, yet she was wearing a sweatshirt.

"Are you sure? I don't mean to impose or upset you, but you don't look too good," I said.

"I'm good," she said. "How come you're here?"

"School's over, I thought I'd come by. I was wondering if you'd want to eat together," I said.

"What food?"

"I don't have a taste for anything," I replied. "You can pick and I can put it together."

"Yeah, alright," Joue said. She mused for a moment, pressing some of her stray hairs back. She placed a hand over her mouth, still thinking.

"I can choose if you really don't want to."

"Could you?" she asked and I just nodded. It was quiet for a moment before she spoke up. "Can I ask a question?"

"Sure."

"I know you like hanging out around me and in my office, stuff like that," she said. "But how come you always come to me first with plans? Isn't Hizashi your best friend?"

"Yeah, he is. He has for a long while. I don't think you realize just how much time we actually spend together. I might choose to have dinner with you a few nights out of the week or want to see you everyday, but that doesn't mean you're taking up any of his time. Trust me, you couldn't if you tried."

"Okay, I get it," she reassured. She looked back down to her papers. My eyes scanned over her, watching her squirm slightly. When she was in her own head and her own space it seemed she was uncomfortable.

"Who's your best friend?" I asked, trying to distract.

"Well...right now I think..." she glanced up at me. "I've got my friend in America. She's someone I talk to everyday. But someone here? I don't know."

"You've got to have someone you consider to be your best friend, what about Midnight?"

"She's nice and I like hanging out with her, but she and I aren't around each other enough to be best friends. I've been talking more to that nail tech, Nari," she said.

"Am I not your best friend yet?" I asked. She glanced up, shrugging.

"I don't really declare best friends with someone unless they think I'm their best friend too."

"You are."

"You said Mic was."

"You can have more than one best friend."

"...Not really, but I guess if you want to," Joue said. "Then sure, you're one of my best friends."

"You sound disappointed."
