Shinsou's POV

"Yeah?" I asked, opening my door. I didn't particularly want to be up today, so this wake up call was not exactly my favorite thing.

"Hey." I looked to Kaminari, my frustration softening.

"What's up?"

"Just thought I'd come by," he shrugged. "Can I come in?"

"Sure," I shrugged, letting him skim past me. He made himself comfortable on my bed and I sat down against my pillow. He propped himself up against the wall and I handed a pillow in his direction. He put it between his back and the wall, sighing. He pulled out his phone, probably to play a game or something. I eyed him for a moment before pulling out my laptop. It was quiet between us. We didn't really have anything to talk about, and it was kind of a nice silence.

Quality time.

I scrolled through the news, seeing quite a few articles on the attack. They were all vague, seeing as reporters didn't know anything about what happened yesterday. What they were assuming, was that the gate failure was a fluke, and that we were all safe. We were, now that gates had been updated yet again. At least that's what people needed to know. What appeared to be happening now, was a great overshadowing in the news. I clicked on an article published just mere hours ago about a fight across the city. It had been flooded out with the UA attack, a set of 3 or 4 hostages retrieved at the expense of a small business building. The business had been relocated and the hostages were unharmed. I clicked on a video someone had taken from the street.

Whispered racked through the background of the video as a man came crashing out the front window. The video was pointing towards the ground for a short time as the recover put distance between themselves and the fight. Taking quick strides down from the window on steps of inky black was the pro hero Umbra. Now that Aizawa sensei was a teacher, I looked to Umbra for a piece of inspiration.

"Isn't that the dark villain hero?"

That was an oxymoron. Much like myself, Umbra had frequently been told she was compared to a villain because of the nature behind her quirk. Much like Dark Shadow at Tokoyami's aide, she could bend the darkness to her advantage. Hers of course was a lot let animated than Dark Shadow. I could feel Kaminari glanced up, his eyes turned in my direction. A set of discreet, shadowed stairs led off to the side where another hero was leading the 4 people from the building. Umbra shot a rapid and darting shadow to skim across the ground and grab the guy. He shot something sharp at her and she lost footing on her pillars of darkness. They dissipated and she slammed into the ground, the camera shaking and losing focus for a moment. The other hero came running when Umbra shot back, grabbing a hold of the villain. She collapsed and the video cut. I pulled up the article again, my face contorting into a grimace. Fatally injured. Hospitalized.

"Shinsou, you okay?" Kaminari asked, tilting his head towards me. He moved over on the bed to seat himself beside me. He looked at the article, frowning as well.

"Seems like everything is going wrong huh?" I pointed out.

"I don't know, everything happens for a reason. Maybe she's okay," Kaminari pointed out and I shook my head in his direction.

"It's always the villainous ones that get the short end of the stick," I scoffed. First being targeted yesterday because I had a villainous quirk and now an inspiration of mine struck down in a measly battle. What was the point?

"I know they do, but that's even more opportunity prove everybody wrong."

"Prove them wrong or not, everybody just thinks I'm a villain."

"Not everybody."

"Great, so most."

"No," Kaminari argued. "Look, just because you have a quirk that nasty people judge, it's that person's problem. Quirks aren't bad or good. People are."

"You don't get it."

"I do." I glanced towards Kaminari, who was being firm with me. "You think being the human equivalent of a taser is fun? Not all the time. But I do my best and people notice. You always do your best and people do notice. I swear. Why else would you be in class 1-A? Stop thinking about what other people say about you. Lots of people like you, and you should too." Kaminari took the phone from my hand.

"Wh--"

"See! She's fine and in recovery," he said. "What you read was hours old." I glanced at it, and he was right of course.

"I guess."

"You're not a villain Shinsou and so long as you know that, then you're not," Kaminari said. I looked to him, slightly confused by his wording but just nodded. He looked to me, staring at my eye. "Do you have a black eye?"

"Do I?"

"I think so," he said. He put my phone in front of my face, tugging the skin under my eye downwards. I winced slightly. "Oh sorry." He tugged softly this time, looking at the injury. I was growing more awake of his fingertips in the dip of my jaw, underneath my ear. "Yeah, you should see Recovery Girl about that. If I were Todoroki I'd make you some ice."

"What a shame."

"I know!" he said, retrieving his hand. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," I replied and he smiled slightly, slinging an arm around my sore shoulders.

"Good. Can't have you thinking you're a villain Toshi, you're too good for that," he said and I felt my skin grow a comfortable warmth underneath itself.

"Yeah..."
