He wasn't: Chapter One
August, 2008
My name is Sofie Meyer. I'm 19 years old, lives in NYC and we have a nice family. Me, my dad and my mom... Not until last year, my folks got divorced and my mom remarried to a guy a little younger than her. My dad, he just remained single. Takes every opportunity that comes to him in terms of jobs, friends and women. My folks remained contact with each other. But I think it was only for my sake. I'm currently at college taking up Fine Arts in NYU. After their divorce, my dad went back to Lexington, and my mom still in New York. The good thing about their divorcement is, that I get to stay with my dad in Lexington every summer. My dad's place is near High Rock Lake. Its really a nice place especially during summer because its so sunny and beautiful. Me and my dad go fishing whenever he's around. Its also peaceful and makes you relax. I enjoy the nice view and I bring my painting tools and DSLR camera with me whenever I go there.
My passion for the Fine Arts goes way back when I was seven years old. I used to draw on walls with crayons and my mom would get mad at me. But my dad tolerates it for he knows what will I become in the future. We weren't rich but not poor either. My dad has a stable job as a government employee here and for me, that's one of the solidest job. I'm proud of my dad. I have always been proud of him. I've seen him worked hard for me and my mother that's why I was completely against their divorce in the first place. Hearing that your parents will have a divorce is very hard. I didn't know that it partly changed my life.
"Mom! I'm all packed and ready to go to dad's!" I shouted from my bedroom from upstairs, carrying two bags from both hands and a bulky bagpack on my back.
"Alright dear, you be careful on your way there. Here's some extra money in case you get an emergency. And don't forget to call me when you get there." Mom handed over and I grab it and stuff it in my pocket. She kissed me goodbye and then I went to the front door then reached for the knob and turned.
"Oh, hello Sofie. I was just about to knock."
"Hey," I waved.
Anthony was my mom's new guy. They've been married for like half a year now. He's just 33 while my mom's 40. He's a very good basketball and baseball player so that explains why he's buffed.
"Hey, Anthony. Just come right in. Mom's at the kitchen."
"Thanks. Heading over to Lexington?" he asked, not surprised as he hang his coat behind our wooden door.
"Yes I am," I said as a-matter-of-factly. "Take care of mom." I said, walking out the front door and heading to my Ford Focus. I placed my bags on the trunk and stepped inside my car. Before I started my car I looked at our house for 5 minutes and wondered how would my dad and mom get back together.
"Heeeeey baby!"
"Anthony, what a surprise!"
I could hear them shout from outside. I rolled my eyes. and stepped on the gas. And headed for Lexington.
________________
After many hours of driving, I reached Lexington. It's quite dark now. I honked my horn to signal dad that I'm here. I got out of my car and dad was waiting outside.
"Hey Sofie!" dad hugged me tightly.
"Dad!" I smiled and hugged him back. He patted my head and helped me get my bags out of the car trunk.
