He Wasn't: Chapter Twelve
"Are you sure you don't want to stay here for another couple more weeks, Sofie?" dad asked again.
I sighed and closed the trunk. "I told you dad, we have an art exhibit coming up next week,"
"Are you coming back? 'cos I'm gonna miss you kiddo." he hugged me tightly.
"Aww dad, aren't you not used to this same old scenario for the last 12 months? Of course I'll be back." I said, letting go of his hug.
"I'll never get used to it," he snorted. "We shouldn't be apart in the first place,"
"There you go again. Don't think about that stuff and just enjoy the summer."
"Will do... Say hi to Lily for me ok,"
"Of course," I said, getting in the car and dad closed the car door. He waved goodbye and I started to drive away.
I looked at the side mirror and dad was still standing. His image got smaller and smaller until I can't see him anymore. As I drove, I passed the lake and the shrimp shack where Nate and I went for our first date. Memories flashed back, like the time I got to know him when we were at the lake, the time we walked beneath the shimmering stars and when he sang on stage at the shrimp shack and dedicated the song to me and the last was while we were on the lake, swimming. But those are just some stories that I'd probably never tell Megan.
Preoccupied with my own thoughts, I didn't notice that someone was crossing the road. I snapped back when I heard him yell. I quickly stepped on the brakes.
"You should really focus when you're driving," he said irritately.
"...Randy?" I got out of my car.
"No, it's Edward Cullen."
I laughed but Randy was still serious. He leaned closer at the car window and looked at the back seat.
"Bags packed, leaving on a thursday morning and preoccupied with her thoughts while driving, yep, you're heartbroken."
"What, no!" I said, but its really written all over my face that it's true.
"Hmm," he said. "Does Nate have your number?" he wondered.
"Yes, why'd you ask?"
"No reason... I'll get it from him some other time."
"Ok," I said. "See you around, Randy."
"Hey wait, are you coming back?"
"I guess..."
"Well you should," he said.
"I'll have to think about it," I said getting inside my car again. I could hear him laugh under his breath and waved.
I'm not sure if I shoud go back. I said something I should have not said to Nate. The art exhibit is only for one week, so I guess I have to go back for the sake of dad. I kind of feel guilty because the whole time I was at Lexington, I never had really time for him. That's the part of the reason why I should really go back here. For dad only.

It was really a long trip. I reached NYU at 7 P.M. I slowed down my car and parked in front of the dorm. I rubbed my two hands and exhaled deeply then I saw Megan running out the dormitory while shouting my name.
"Sofie!!"
"Meg--" I didn't get the chance to finish what I was saying because she hugged me so tight that I think my bones are cracking.
