He wasn't: Chapter Four

Morning came quickly. I tossed and turned on my bed and tugged my blanket to wrap myself more. The smell of bacon and waffles filled my room, indicating that I should get up and come downstairs. I scrunched my face, not wanting to get up yet.

Nate crossed my mind again. Whatever, It's not like we'll see each other again or anything. I tell myself. I got up and went to the bathroom. I squeezed a small amount of toothpaste onto my toothbrush and started brushing my teeth. While brushing, I looked at myself and noticed my hair is sticking at every direction. I looked like a witch. I laughed at myself. It's not like someone could see me like this in the morning. I started heading downstairs. As I came closer to the kitchen, I could hear dad talking and laughing. I assumed he might be talking on the phone with his buddy, Charlie.

"Dad, who are you talking to?" I asked in a slightly loud voice, good enough to hear me from the living room.

"Sofie, come here. I made waffles." dad yelled. I quickly ran to the kitchen.

"Good morning dear." Mrs. Coleman greeted me with her usual warm smile.

I smiled back. "Good morning, Nora." I see she's alone. I inspected the room, searching if... If... Maybe, Nate was with her. Then I gave up. Maybe he didn't come with her. I took a seat and helped myself with some waffles in front of me.

"The medical results aren't in the car."

My eyes widened, my pulse quickened and my stomach began to flip. I glanced over my shoulder. It's Nate.

"Morning sleeping beauty." Nate waved. I just froze where I'm sitting. The first thing I thought of was my hair. The second is how I looked. I'm only wearing sweat pants and a fitted tube. I don't even know why I was even wearing it.

I tried to act as natural as I can. But I know they'll notice I'm freaking out inside.

"H-hey." Was all I can muster. I let out a tiny smile. Nate grabbed a chair and sat in front of me.

"Help yourself with some waffles, Nathan." dad said.

"Thanks. Don't mind if I do." I hear Nate say it in a teasing tone. I rolled my eyes, ignoring them and taking another bite of my waffle.

"So Nathan, are you enjoying the summer?" Dad asked, taking another sip of his coffee. Why is he like that? He doesn't seem interested about Nate in the beginning. Or maybe I don't know anything about their relationship yet.

Nate smiled at dad then he glanced at me. "I am now."

I almost choked at what he said. I could feel my face was turning red. I looked down at my plate, avoiding any eye contact with him.

"Well that's good to hear." dad said, turning away from Nate and facing Nora.

"So back to the topic, when will you go there?" he said.

"I'm planning this afternoon."

"I could come with you... But how about Edward?"

"He's busy with the farm. Though I wanted him to take me." Nora said with a frown.

Dad looked at Nora for a moment. "After this, get your coat and let's head over there. I insist."

Nora nodded and smiled. And I'm there, confused with what's going on. The two of them headed for the living room while Nate and I was left in the kitchen. I got up and collected the plates. Nate was still eating.

"Just put your plate on the sink when you're done."

"Yeah I will."

I turned to the sink, putting the used plates in the dishwasher. I could feel Nate staring at me from behind.
