He Wasn't: Nathan's POV
"The sky had lost it's color, the sun has turned to gray... No that's not it." I sighed as I shook my head. I held my guitar tightly and prepared to strum again but failed to get the right words for my song.
The gig is on Monday and I haven't finished my composition. Somehow, I've been really bothered on the thought that Sofie suddenly left Lexington. Could I be the reason? But I haven't done anything as far as I could remember to hurt her or something. But I know she was bothered at the lake. After that, she never talked normally at me.
Knock knock knock
"Come in," I shouted. I placed my guitar over my table and got up.
Aunt Nora peeked in and flashed me some envelopes.
"Nathan, can you pay these bills when you're finished with that?" she said, placing the bills on my dresser.
"Yeah, I'm done auntie. I'll just grab my jacket."
I glanced at her as I grabbed my jacket on the headboard of my bed. She walked herself in, completely pushing the door open and sat on the stool. She glanced at the window then back to me. She looked concern, like the look of any mother would look at her son after knowing he had been dumped by a girl.
I smiled and walked towards her. "What's with that?"
"I heard from Steven you were looking for Sofie the other day. He said you came to his house to ask,"
"Oh, I was just going to return something to her,"
Nora still looked at me with concern. She was still waiting for the right answer from me, but then gave up.
"And there I thought you finally found someone who makes you happy," she sighed and got up. She patted my shoulder and got out, closing the door behind her gently.
I sat down on the stool and drummed my fingers on the table. I grabbed my phone and started to dial.
Riiiing... Rinnngg... Riiinggg...
I pressed my cellphone against my ear and continued to wait for my call to be answered. I found myself fidgeting for no reason. If she answers this, if I hear her voice, I know I won't be able to talk.
Call ended. The screen flashed. I really have no guts after all.
______________
"Here's your change, sir." the woman at the counter said, handing me $21.
I stuffed it inside my pocket and turned around. I pulled out my cellphone from the pocket of my jacket and started texting Randy.
"Oww!"
"Sorry, I wasn't looking where I'm going--"
"Nate?"
"Hannah?" I said. "What are you doing here?"
She smiled and fixed her posture then she came closer. "I just finished buying what I need,"
"Oh, sorry about earlier I wasn't looking. I was texting Randy." I scratched my head but she looked amused.
"So what are you doing here?"
"Paying the bills,"
"Are you done?"
"Yeah, about to head home too."
"If you want," she said, adjusting the bag on her shoulder. "Let's go eat, my treat." She let off a wide smile.
I raised a brow, not sure what to say. I mean, it doesn't sound right if a girl pays instead of a guy.
"No, I'll just pay for us. It's the least I could do,"
