He Wasn't: Chapter Nine
I woke up the next morning just as I have planned. I woke up at seven, took a bath and headed to the kitchen and prepared sandwiches for later. I saved five pieces of sandwich for dad and started to brew coffee. By eight forty-five. I readied dad's breakfast and fetched his newspaper and placed it on his usual side of the table. Dad came down a few minutes after I had set the table. He let out a big yawn before sitting.
"Morning, Dr. Meyer."
"Mornin'," he said, letting out a manly stretch. "You're up early. Where are you going?"
"Me and Nate's friends are going swimming at the lake at ten." I said, pouring coffee in his mug.
Dad just nodded and flipped through the pages of his newspaper. I grabbed a chair and plopped down.
"You've been hanging with Nate the whole week,"
"We're just friends,"
Dad laughed under his breath. "A man and a woman can never stay as friends. It's true. Been there, done that,"
I grabbed a sandwich and took a big bite. "Who was the one who told me to meet someone new?" I said, pointing my sandwich to him.
"You must have took it the wrong way, I didn't say meet someone to have a fling with,"
"Wow dad," I said, shaking my head.
"What?"
"That hurts. And for the record, we do not fling. He's just kind enough to show me around."
"Oh suuure," dad snorted. "And by means of showing you around, that means taking you out on a date,"
I choked. "Fine, we had a date, but that doesn't mean anything!"
"Sofie," he said. "If a guy likes you, he won't beat around the bush. He will tell you and show you all the signs that he likes you."
I nodded my head, telling dad to go on. He chuckled and continued.
"We aren't like you girls who hide your feelings and gives subtle pointless hints. Since we're the alpha male, we always make the first move."
The corners of my lips curved upward. I tried hard not to smile because I can't hide the fact that I think dad is telling me Nate really does like me. And that came out from my dad. I cleared my throat and made a very serious face.
"Dad," I said looking straight at him. "I know you're telling me that Nate likes me. But... I don't want to assume that he really does."
Dad shook his head and I think I heard him say I'm unbelievable. He continued reading and didn't say a word. I shrugged and got up, putting my mug on the sink.
"That's why you don't have a boyfriend, Sof." he said, not taking his eyes off his newspaper. "You don't trust yourself that this guy really likes you. It's really obvious. Try asking Megan, I'm sure she'll tell you the same thing."
"Maybe you're right..." I sighed at last. "I don't know dad. I don't know what to say because this is very awkward, me talking to you about my lovelife!" I threw my hands in the air. Dad let out a laugh.
"It's more nice to talk about things like that with your dad."
I rolled my eyes, smirking at the thought, my dad gives a hell of advice. I went upstairs and took a shower, then I put my navy blue bikini on, put on a pair of denim shorts, and topped it off with a white knitted top. Slipped on my sandals and brushed my long wavy brown hair. I grabbed my shades and stuffed it inside my bag then I was set to go.
