Dr Joy cleared me to return to work within two weeks.

I didn't inform anyone that I was back. I walked into work with my head held high and a smile on my face, punching my card in for the day before heading to my office. I walked past the nurse's station who looked at me with blank and confused looks on their faces.

"Dr Saravana?" One of the nurses called out, staring at me perplexed.

"Good morning, Samantha!" I greeted cheerfully, handing over my badge. "I think it's time I got back to work, don't you?"

"G-Good morning," she said, taking my badge and scanning it. "Um. Dr Saravana...I thought you weren't going to be back for another month. You need to inform Dr Carlson..."

Honestly, so did I. Oh well, it didn't matter. I was getting tired of everyone calling me and asking me if I was okay? At this point, the fridge in our kitchen was full of casserole and soup. I don't think I can take another spoonful of tomato soup without crying. Or my mother's nagging. Or Nat's sparing lessons.

"Don't worry about that. I have a feeling he knows. Nothing happens here without him knowing.' I said, taking the badge back.

"Dr Saravana!" Someone called behind me. "Dr Saravana, wait!"

"See?" I put down the bag on the counter and turned around. Dr Carlson was running down the hall, his coat flying behind him. He skids to a stop in front of me, out of breath.

"Dr Carlson," I said, smiling at his red face. "You look...winded."

He shot me a dirty look, his hands on his knees and he gasped for air. "I was on the roof."

"Didn't Dr Franz tell you to stop smoking?" I asked.

"No." He said, straightening up. "Who said I was smoking? Maybe I was just enjoying the fresh morning air."

"In Manhattan?"

"Don't judge me."

"Too late," I said, walking away. "I'm heading to my office, then I'll join you for our daily rounds. I missed being in the wards."

"You can't!" He stepped in front of me, holding his arms out. "I forbid you from going any further! You shall not pass, Meera!"

"You wish you were as cool as Gandalf." I snorted, ducking under his arm. I pulled my keys out of my bag. "You didn't turn my office into a morgue while I was away, did you?"

"No......"

"Portal to another dimension?"

"We have funding but not that much funding."
