Y/N POV
Heading towards St.Petersburg, Florida. I am very excited for my first competitive in the single seater category. Legacy Autosport has given me a big opportunity to make the step up to professional motorsport. It has been my childhood dream to be a racing driver and I really wanted to make it into Formula 1 one day.
After arriving at the track, I quickly went to meet up with the mechanics and engineers from Legacy Autosport. This is my first time experiencing single seater racing cars that isn't karts and also my first time racing in the streets of St.Petersburg Florida so I need my engineers and mechanics to give me all the information about the car and the track so this briefing would be very beneficial for me.
Kenny: So Y/N, this will be your first time in the car and this track but don't worry use the installation lap to get a feel of the car. What is your knowledge about this track?
Y/N: Not great, but I have watched some IndyCar races around this circuit, also I have some simulator and gaming experience about this track.
Kenny: No worries, just use the first few laps to know more about the track. Take your time before pushing, we're all here to learn.
Finishing the briefing I got into the car and got prepared for my first laps in the qualifying session. Surprisingly I got used to the car and the track quite quickly and was able to push on my second lap. The track was a street track but was very wide so I was just exploring the limit of flirting the barriers on the first two laps before finally getting into the zone and pushing for a fast lap on the third lap. At the end of qualifying, I qualified P5 which was the highest out of all the rookies. This was a good starting position for the race later as starting on the third row of the grid gives me a really big chance of scoring a podium or maybe even a race win.
Time Skip To The Race
Lining up on the grid, I was very nervous. I was top performing rookie in qualifying as most rookies qualified towards the back of the grid. I was lining up with the drivers who have at least one year experience of this series such as Nicholas Latifi, Logan Sargeant. Nicholas Latifi and Logan Sargeant are the drivers who are seen as the big boys of American and Canadian racing drivers as they are the ones who have the potential to join Formula 1 very soon. I knew if I wanted to get up the ranks of the motorsport, I need to beat them or at least match their pace throughout this season. I have one goal for this race and that is to finish in front of Nicholas Latifi and Logan Sargeant.
I watched and waited for the five red lights to go out trying to get a good reaction time and a good start. However, I did not manage to get the start I wanted. I got the clutch position all wrong, hence I got load of wheel spin off the line and bogged down at first gear relegating me towards 13th after the first corner. This was not the start I wanted, I need to fight back towards the front. The chances of potentially winning this race is completely over and so are my chances of impressing the Formula 1 teams.
Composing myself after that miserable start, I tried my best to recover from being in P13. Fighting my way through the field, I made a lot of moves trying to come back towards the front of the field. I was charging through the field like a hot knife through butter, and with two laps to go I went back up into my starting position fo 5th and chasing down Nicholas Latifi in 4th. I was pushing as hard as I could to try and catch and overtake Nicholas Latifi, however with his experience he was placing his car at a very good position into every corner defending very well from a potential overtake. As we both exited the final corner, he had a bit of a tank slapper. I saw my chance to try and overtake him. Sitting in his slipstream I pulled out last second to try and get alongside him but the chequered flag has dropped signalling the end of the race. I finished P5 which wasn't bad for a rookie but one more lap I would have gotten P4 from Nicholas Latifi.
Kenny: Good job Y/N, good recovery drive.
Y/N: Ahhh s*** one more lap I would have got him.
Kenny: Pick up rubber and we'll talk about it in the debrief.
Getting out of the car after the race, the whole team were giving me a round of applause for the mega recovery drive from P13 to P5. Honestly, I wasn't happy of the race because I have ruined my race from lap 1 and it was just playing catchup from there. The win was potentially on the table for today's race but I have completely ruined it and also I was still not happy about not getting Nicholas Latifi for P4 on the final lap. As a racing driver, no matter how good your recovery drive is, the aim is to win and just like back in karting I am not happy about not being on the top step of the podium. Anyways the race is done now and there's no changing the results so all I could is see what I can do better from the debrief.
Kenny: Alright, let's start with the negatives. Your clutch position was good at the start however the RPM wasn't enough so you ended up bogging down at the start. Also, your shifts between first gear and second gear are a bit too long so you had excessive wheel spin off the start. Try to manage that better next race and you will be able to make a better start. Moving onto the positives. Well, it's obvious, you are pretty brave on the brakes and we could see it on the telemetry. Going from P13 to P5 on your first taste of these cars is a pretty good result for a rookie.
After the debrief, I feel like I have learnt a lot. Especially the clutch and starting procedure. Obviously in karting there are no clutch it was a bump start so it was really different. Suddenly when I was walking out, getting ready to leave the circuit, someone flagged me down.
???: You must be Y/N right?
Y/N: Yes and you are?
Paul Beauvie: I am Paul Beauvie, a performance engineer for DAMS racing. Here's my card, and I was watching you during the race. Superb tyre management and fighting spirit to come back from that poor start.
Y/N: Thank you very much Mister Beauvie.
Paul Beauvie: I'll cut to the chase, we're looking for a driver to fill in our spot for the European F3 Championship next season and if you keep this up you might be in for a shout in our team next season. We'll be scouting drivers from this series so keep the good work up.
After that little conversation, Paul Beauvie left. I was stunned. I have only made my debut in single seaters and a junior category powerhouse team like Prema wanted me in their lineup for the upcoming season? I could not believe my luck, I really need to do well in this season because Prema are scouting this series which means if I managed to beat Logan Sargaent and Nicholas Latifi I will be in the running for a Prema drive which is the gateway to a Formula 1 drive as proven by many drivers like Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly. I really hope I could get that Prema driver next season even if it is just the British F3 Championship, it's still a very good opportunity to show the F1 teams what I am capable of and make my Formula 1 dream come true.
So this is the first chapter of another one of my books. Big credits to J_o_e_l for giving me this plot.
This book will have slow updates for now because I will be mainly focusing on my other book as a priority. I will try my best to balance the update schedule between two books but I can't make any promises.
Please vote on this chapter and share this books to your friends who likes F1 and K-Pop. Getting more reads and votes will give me motivation to update more frequently.
