Y/N POV
Ever since I managed to settle down in England with my new teammates and new team, I started to feel more positive and approached this season in a positive manner too. I know I need to be at my best this year, not everybody gets given a chance to race for Carlin in Formula 3. I made a promise to myself at the start of the season that I need to be on top of my game if I want a chance to make it into Formula 1 one day.
The start of the season was not the best for me. I wasn't really used to the Formula 3 cars as it felt very different to what I used to race in America. It was really tricky to handle with all the extra downforce these cars had. The start of the season was difficult as I was constantly fighting at the back of the grid. However, managing to compose myself, I was able to start fighting at the front of the grid.
Coming into the end of the season, I finished in 10th in the overall standings. It wasn't that bad given how I started the season. To top it all off, I won Rookie of the Season as well which seemed to please Carlin. With Nobuharu Matsushita and Louis Deletraz moving to MP Motorsport and Charouz Racing respectively, the Carlin Formula 2 seats were opened and having won the final race of the season in Sochi, it looks like I am in contention for the Carlin Formula 2 seat next season.
Russian Grand Prix Post Race
After the podium celebration, I headed back to the Carlin motorhome ready to pack up and relax for a bit. As this was the last race of the season, I will be heading home to Toronto after this race so I can spend some time with my family. I went into the Carlin motorhome greeted all the team members and mechanics before I saw Ben Huntingford, the team manager, looking for me.
Ben Huntingford: Y/N, I think the boss and Stefanus want to see you.
I wonder what does the boss and Stefanus want from me? Stefanus De Groot is the technical director of the team. Hopefully it is about my contract for the next season. I guess I will have to find out. Putting down my stuff down, I immediately head to Trevor Carlin's room eager to see what the surprise for me is.
Knock Knock
Trevor Carlin: Come in.
Y/N: Hello boss.
Trevor Carlin: Y/N, please have a seat.
Y/N: Thanks boss, you wanted a word with me?
Trevor Carlin: I'll let Stefanus explain the situation.
Stefanus De Groot: So, Y/N as I'm sure you know Louis Deletraz and Nobuharu Matsushita are not staying with the team next season. This means we have two free seats in Formula 2 next season. Anyways, I would like to know if you are settling in well and ready to take up the Formula 2 seat with us next season?
Are you kidding me? Did Stefanus just ask me if I am ready to take up the Formula 2 seat for next season? Of course I am ready, even if I am not ready I will say I am ready. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Only 24 spaces on the Formula 2 grid and not every one gets a chance to race in Formula 2. Without a thought I accepted the offer.
Y/N: Of course, thank you very much for the opportunity.
Trevor Carlin: Great, Y/N here is the invoice for the fees of next year's Formula 2 season.
Time Skip to after the flight home
As I arrived in Toronto Pearson Airport, I saw my parents waiting for me at the arrival hall. I quickly ran over to them and hugged them. It has been too long since I last saw my parents because I have been living in England almost the whole year.
Y/N: Mom, dad I missed you both.
Mom and Dad: We missed you too Y/N.
Y/N: Oh by the way, I did it. I got a drive for Formula 2 next season.
Mom and Dad: Great job kid, we are both very proud of you.
I don't know why, but I feel like my parents didn't really like the fact that I managed to make the step up into Formula 2 next season. I thought they would be happy for me landing a Formula 2 drive because they have been supporting my racing career since I started go karting back when I was 5 years old. Maybe they were just sad that I have to leave them for another year. Who knows?
Once I arrived home, I unpacked everything and went to my room to take some rest. I was really really tired after the long flight home.
Y/N: Mom I'm going to take a rest.
Mom: Sure Y/N, I'll wake you up when it's time for dinner.
Y/N's Father POV
Dad: Is he asleep?
Mom: Yeah he said he was tired, so he went to take some rest.
Dad: Good let's discuss this problem we have.
Mom: I think we can still afford to race for one season in Formula 2 but that's it.
Dad: Yeah all the directors in the company have to take pay cuts for the upcoming year because we are currently on a slump.
Mom: How do we tell him?
Dad: The plan is we don't, just pray that he gets into Formula 1 soon so we can stop paying. If he doesn't make it, then we'll tell him about this.
Paying for my son's racing career was never easy. With him having no personal sponsors and fundings, we have to fully sponsor him every year and the payment for Formula 2 is just too expensive. It's half a million US Dollars per season. It would have been fine if the office didn't force us all to take pay cuts for the upcoming year, but I guess that's the downside of being that high up in the corporate ladder. I don't know if I could afford my son's career after this season. If he doesn't get picked by a Formula 1 team or some sponsors, his Formula 1 dream is over and I don't know how could I break this sad news to him.
It's the weekend that means another Trust in Talent chapter. Thank you very much for 150 reads on this book. We are so close to 200 reads so please vote and share this book.
I decided to add Y/N's parents POV into this story a little bit just to give a background of Y/N's family. I hope you guys liked this little Easter egg into this story. Please tell me if you like it and if I should continue doing this in future chapters.
