Hungarian Grand Prix

Y/N POV

I don't know what is going on with Somi, but she hasn't responded to any of my text. Anyways, that shouldn't be my concern because I have already apologised, it is over to her if she wanted to accept my apology. There was nothing I could do up until the summer break because I was very busy with my own schedules. I saw her new song dumb dumb which was a decent song so I guess she also have something to keep her busy as well. I really need to take this thing off my mind and since I have already done my part of apologising, my work here is done. I might go see her during the summer break but that is a thought for another day. Currently, I should have one thought in my mind and that is the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Heading into the Hungaroring, it wasn't one of my best tracks and it is also a track that heavily demands the physicality of drivers. It was probably one of my least favourite tracks and to make matters even worse, I have had a full engine change coming into this race meaning I will be starting at the back of the grid no matter how high I qualify. On the positives, I was in decent form ever since the French Grand Prix, taking the good form I was in, I should be able to come back and score at least a point from the back of the grid using the advantage of this new engine.

Race Day

Race day arrived and things got even worst. It was raining meaning that this will be a wet race. One thing I hate more than driving around the Hungaroring is driving on a wet Hungaroring. This was looking for a terrible race for me. However, as Tim Wright told me on the pre race briefing, anything could happen in a wet race so I should be optimistic and look for opportunities during the race.

Tim Wright: Ok, so Y/N I know you don't like wet races but there's nothing we could do. We predict it will be dry at around lap 10 and we'll see what happens after that. Good luck mate.

After the briefing, I got into the car. I was already soaking wet inside my cockpit. I didn't like this but I shouldn't be such a pessimist in this situation. I was not looking forward to this race but I need to get on with it. At least it would be dry at around lap 10 so I guess that's some positives. Sitting on my wet cockpit, I waited for the five red lights to go out for a wet Hungarian Grand Prix.

David Croft: WE HAVE FIVE LIGHTS, AND IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO. MAX VERSTAPPEN GETS OF REALLY WELL, SO DOES LANDO NORRIS WHO IS CHALLENGING BOTTAS AND OH BOTTAS HEADS INTO THE MCLAREN AND THAT IS CHAOS INTO TURN 1. SURELY IT'S A SAFETY CAR.

I didn't know what was happening at the front of the grid, but I saw flashing yellow lights on my dash and the yellow lights suddenly turned into red signalling the session will be stopped. There was a lot of spray onto my visor and I can't see what happened but I was told to come back into the pits and as the spray settled, I saw in my mirror that a lot of cars was out into turn 1. I didn't know what position I was in but I guess starting from the back has allowed me to avoid all the chaos heading into turn 1.

Tim Wright: Ok, Y/N safety car safety car. Mode SC...... Sorry, that'll be red flag, so mode SC and box.

During the red flag, I watched the replay of the first lap crash and it took out 6 cars and together with the chaos happening in the first lap, I found myself in 13th place. After about 15 minutes, the FIA announced that the race will be restarting soon and that it would be a standing start. With that all the drivers got strapped into their cars and when the green light started flashing inside the pit lane we followed the safety car onto the grid. With the sun being out during the red flag, the track was drying massively and I definitely think it was time for dry tyres.

Tim Wright: We think it's dry enough for the dry tyres what do you think?

Y/N: Yep, box for mediums.

Tim Wright: Ok copy, box for mediums. We're ready for you in the box.

However, the whole field seemed to have the same idea as I did. With everyone in the pits pitting for dry tyres, I managed to somehow snuck my way up into 7th position. As the race restarted, I was in a prime position to score some decent points. With this race now being a simple one stop, I pushed as hard as I could knowing that everyone would be on the same strategy. Making up a few positions, I was stuck behind Fernando Alonso in 4th position. With that my team decided to once again go for the undercut for a gamble on the strategy.

Tim Wright: Ok Y/N, box this lap if Alonso stays out. So box opposite Alonso.

With Fernando Alonso staying out, I came into the pits for an undercut which worked out well for me because I managed to jump the Alpine car and after everyone has made their one and only stop, I found myself knocking on the door of 3rd placed Esteban Ocon. However, with Hungary being a track that is difficult to overtake, I was stuck behind the other Alpine car for a long time even with DRS. I thought I was going to have to settle for 4th place until I found my opportunity in the dying stages of the race. Ocon was slow off the exit of the final corner, with full batter and DRS, I deployed everything and pulled along the side of the Alpine car. Forcing my way through on the inside of turn 1 I defended for life for the final few laps like my life depended on this. Seeing the chequered flag, I brought home 3rd position and gave a big sigh of relief. It was a really tough race but I managed to go from last place to 3rd. This was a really big moment for me and my screams through the team radio reflected my emotions right now.

Tim Wright: Y/N WELL DONE THAT'S 3RD PLACE.

Y/N: HAHA THANKS GUYS, WOOOOO. THE CAR WAS AMAZING TODAY, GREAT STRATEGY. HONESTLY THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS.
