Y/N POV
Once I headed back home, I was very tired so I decided to go to sleep. Clearly, I was still not really used to the demand to the body that the Formula 2 cars give. My neck was sore as I lied down on bed after 2 very solid races, I received a phone call from my mom.
Mom: Hey, Y/N. Great race, I was watching it. Congratulations on the podium.
Y/N: Thanks mom, I'm so tired right now, so I'm going to bed.
Mom: I won't bother you then, I'll cut to the chase. I've received an today and I have some good news for you.
Y/N: What's up mom?
Mom: I've received an email after the feature race yesterday from Haas F1 Team. As for what they want, I'll forward the email to you and you can see for yourself.
Y/N: Oh ok thanks mom, I'll check it out now.
Wow, I really need to check this email out. This better not be a scam or a prank from my parents. Seriously, one good race and I got an offer from a Formula 1 team? I opened my laptop and quickly checked my emails. My sleep can wait, this email sets my future. Haas are a very big motor racing team over in America and as a Canadian, I would be really honoured to represent the only Formula 1 team from North America to compete against other European Formula 1 teams. I opened the email and read it.
Y/N,
After careful consideration, we have decided to invite you to participate in our private young drivers test in the Silverstone held on the 12th of August. Your scheduled seat fit with us will be on the 9th August at our training facility in Leicester. We look forward to seeing you there.
Yours sincerely,
Stuart Morrison (Haas F1 Head of Communications)
I couldn't believe what I am seeing here, a Formula 1 team inviting me to participate in a private test. This is exactly what I was hoping for when I moved to England, going to this private test is going to be my first step to Formula 1 if I perform well during this test. I can't wait for my seat fit tomorrow.
The Next Day
I woke up extra early today as I couldn't really sleep last night, I was too excited about this opportunity I have with Haas F1 Team. It was my seat fit day today and I still can't believe in my mind that I am heading to an official Formula 1 seat fit. I mean a seat is going to made specially for me to be put in a Formula 1 car, how exciting does that sound? I did my morning routine and the drove to the Haas F1 training facility in Leicester. It was quite a long drive from Guildford, but it was a drive that I am willing to do.
As I arrived at the Haas F1 Team plant in Leicester, I was shocked by the size of this plant. It was only a training facility, it wasn't even a full factory but it was so big compared to the Carlin factory in Farnham. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the receptionist asking if I had an appointment or not so I showed her the email that my mom forwarded to me.
Receptionist: Sir, do you have an appointment with us?
Y/N: Yes I do, I was contacted by Mister Morrison for a seat fit with you. Here's my confirmation email.
Receptionist: Right, I'll contact him take a seat while you wait.
Y/N: No worries, take your time.
A few moments later, the receptionist guided me to a meeting room and as I entered, there were two older person dressed in Haas F1 Team shirt, Louis Deletraz and also another person dressed in their casual clothes.
Receptionist: Mister Resta, Y/N is here.
Simone Resta: Ok thank you and welcome Y/N. I'm Simon Resta, technical director of Haas F1 Team and this is the performance coach Baptiste Bardey.
Baptiste Bardey: Pleasure to meet you Y/N.
Y/N: The pleasure is mine.
Simone Resta: Those two are Enzo Fittipaldi and I'm sure you know Louis Deletraz. They will be joining you in the young drivers test.
So that's why they are here, they will be participating in the private F1 test with me. That means I will have some competition for the test which I guess was good because the team can compare our data and see who is best and I will have some extra motivation to perform at my top level.
Simone Resta: Let me explain the rundown. After this you will be doing a seat fit with us then you will start the two day bootcamp to get you physically prepared for the test. Finally on the 12th you will head to Silverstone for the private test where we will assess you all. No pressure I'd say just enjoy these couple of days.
The seat fit went by really quickly as we all sat inside a carbon monocoque of a replicate Formula 1 car, then the engineers poured in some polyurethane liquid to capture our seating position. Completing the seat fit, all three of us followed Baptiste Bardey the performance coach and started our bootcamp programme.
The first day of our bootcamp was a fitness training. The programme was really tough. It contained a lot of weight training and focusing on our neck muscles. The fitness training wore me out a lot but it was a challenge that I was willing to take if it would give me a chance for an F1 driver. I was absolutely knackered and was just hoping that this day would come to an end soon. Soon enough, Baptiste Bardey announced the end of the day which was a big relief because I don't think I could take this anymore.
Baptiste Bardey: Right lads, this is our first day of bootcamp done. Tomorrow you will be in the simulator for most of the day. I know this day probably worn you out but you will understand why we did this harsh training when you get into the F1 car in 2 days.
Thank god the training ended, because I was completely worn out after the exercises that was thrown at me today. After that, I picked up some dinner at the cafeteria and then went to my dorm to take some well deserved break. I can't be thankful enough that I could finally take some moment and lie down. It feel so nice, hopefully the simulator work will be less physically demanding compared to the training I did today.
