George Wilson might have never even dreamt of being stuck in such a predicament as his eyes skimmed over the legal papers his lawyer had brought over for him to sign. The court had decided to put his criminal cousin's son in his care as he was the only remaining relative to Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke.
The more he tried to run away from the reality that he was related to the fearful mercenary, the more he had to face the truth.
And right then looking at the papers in his hands, he was in a conflict of what to do.
He could not disobey the law and as that decision had been given by the court he would have to take the child in. But he could not trust the son of such a ruthless killer to not cause harm to him either so he was quite reluctant to sign the papers.
"Before you sign these papers, why don't you meet Lucas yourself and clear your doubts regarding him?" His lawyer suggested and he looked up, realizing the man was right.
"Why did I not think of that before? Thank you, Daniel," he did not sign the papers just yet, making up his mind to meet the boy first then decide what step had to be taken next.
"Currently Lucas has been put in a rehab center," Daniel resumed, choosing his words carefully, "he was not in the right state when he had been found and as far as I know he has been under treatment ever since then."
"Treatment?" His brow furrowed slightly, all he knew was that the boy was merely nine years of age and to think of such a young child being put into therapy was resentful, "and what do you mean he was not in the right state?"
"Injured, George, he was terribly injured both mentally and physically. It's a miracle he survived even," concern flickered in the man's eyes as he recounted, "you were not there at the hearing or else you would have seen for yourself."
George could not attend the trial because he had been out of the city but in his place, his lawyer and friend, Daniel Whittaker, had been at the hearing and received the court's decision.
"And where is he now?"
"At the same rehab facility, here's the address," he handed him a card, "take the papers with you in case they object you to meet him. But one word of advice, be careful with the kid."
Careful would be an understatement, George thought to himself.
He would not have been surprised if he was told that the nine year old boy was some sort of a mini killing machine, given that he was the son of none other than Deathstroke. But hearing the current scenario was something he had not expected.
It had been a long while since he had met his cousin and he was no longer certain of what changes the man had gone through other than that of turning into a heartless killer. But killer or not, thinking of him abusing his own son both physically and mentally was something he could not come to terms with.
"I'll join you at lunch tomorrow, tell me what you've decided by then," Daniel stood up to leave and George nodded in acknowledgement.
His eyes flickered towards the clock as he wrapped up the rest of his work, calling his secretary to cancel the upcoming meeting. At the moment, meeting the boy who was going to live with him from then onwards was more important.
Daniel had cleared to him that even if he signed the papers then, Lucas would not be handed over to him until he fully recovered and that could take a considerably long time. So George was well aware that he had enough time to think of an alternative if in case things didn't go as he hoped.
Everything depended on meeting his cousin's son for now and then he would decide what he should do next.
