Four months had passed since Janus had asked him out.
Virgil frowned whenever the subject was brought up. He hadn't said anything else about Janus' secondary school actions, but it was clear there was still a certain angry tenacity between them.
It had been going well enough - they'd decided not to tell anyone, but not to keep it a secret, either. Whoever found out knew - and Remy, unaware of Virgil's slightly hostile feelings towards Roman's now-boyfriend, had given them his congratulations. In the form of a 'cool.' text.
It would do.
"Hey, Roman," Virgil shouted from his place on the couch earlier that day.
"Huh," he yelled back from his room.
"I've got a band rehearsal tonight, wanna come?" he asked.
"Of course," Roman had said, and now they were here.
He'd followed Virgil through the doors to the auditorium, where the members were all setting up. Most of them, anyway. Remy and Remus were messing around near the drum kit, Patton had been plucking at a guitar before reaching up to tune it, and Valerie was playing scales by the keyboard. A fifth person was standing there with a clipboard, someone Roman didn't recognize. "Hey, Logan," Virgil called out with a smile, causing him to look up, his glasses flashing in the lights.
"Salutations, Virgil," he said back, smiling.
Virgil pulled Roman in front of him. "This is Roman."
"Ah." Logan hesitated for a minute, his hands gripping a bit tighter to the clipboard as he studied Roman. "I have heard many things about you."
"All good, I hope," he said with an awkward chuckle and glance toward Virgil, who nodded.
"They were, yes," Logan confirmed, finally deciding on sticking out his hand. Roman studied the taller man carefully. He had light brown hair, pushed away from his bright, blue eyes that were framed by glasses. A soulmark was outlined in dark blue on the back of his hand. "It is an honour to meet you."
"You too," he said, gripping Logan's hand and shaking it.
The band tested out a few songs, which were watched by Logan and Roman. In between the melodies, Roman made conversation.
"You have a soulmate?" he asked.
"Indeed I do," he answered.
"Anyone I know?" Roman teased.
Logan chose his words slowly, carefully. "You don't know they're my soulmate," he finally said.
"Hmm. Secret?" he guessed.
"In that realm, yes." Logan shook his head. "I would rather they tell you themself."
"Alright." Roman left the topic alone.
A song later, he had noticed bandages peeking out from the arm that was the farthest of Roman. "You alright?"
Logan glanced up. "What do you mean?"
He pointed. "Your arm."
Logan stuttered. "I- Uh- Just a small cut," he said. "V- " He stopped again. "Virgil got nervous about it, so..."
