Alex's POV

I was working at my rune shop inscribing a durability increasing rune onto an outfit for someone. Once I finished inscribing the rune, I turned off the light to my shop and heading out the front door, locking it behind me. I walked down a few streets, heading to my apartment. As I turned down the last street, only to see a woman with ginger hair crying at a bus stop with bags around her feet. "Something wrong?" I asked, walking up to her. She jumped a little, looking at me. "Whoa sorry, I didn't mean to scare you just wanted to know if you were ok." I said. She shook her head. "No, my boyfriend cheated on me. I just found out tonight, so I packed my bags and left him." She said.

"I'm assuming you have nowhere to stay?" I asked. She nodded. "Come on, let's get you somewhere warm." I said, picking up a bag of hers.

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"Come to my apartment. You can stay the night at least." I said.

"Are you sure?" She asked. I nodded. I grabbed another bag and led her to my apartment. I let her inside, setting her bags on the floor. "It's not much, but it's enough for a night at least." I said.

"It's not much?" She asked, laughing lightly. I looked around my pretty spacious apartment. "What do you do for a living?" She asked.

"I'm a rune mage, nothing special." I said.

"Nothing special. I can't even imagine the things you can do with runes." She said, surprised.

"Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Alex Greenleaf." I said.

"I'm Lucinda, regular old witch." She said.

"It's good to meet you. I think it's about time we head to bed though. You go ahead and take my room, I'll sleep in the couch." I said.

"Thank you." Lucinda said. I nodded and headed to the living room. I laid down on the couch falling asleep while thinking about my family. I woke up to the sound of something being cooked the next morning. I got up and looked at the apartment's kitchen to see Lucinda cooking at the stove. "What's up with you cooking?" I asked. She looked at me a little startled. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you up. I just wanted to do something nice for you is all." Lucinda said.

"It's fine, besides it smells really good." I said getting up and stretching. I walked to the bathroom and took a quick shower. I wrapped a towel around my waist before walking to my room. I grabbed a new set of clothes and put it on before heading back to the kitchen. I walked in to see her serving what she made onto a couple plates. "Hey, what'd ya make?" I asked.

"Nothing much just some eggs and toast. I did notice one thing though the electricity here seems more potent." Lucinda said.

"Oh that's some extra electric runes I engraved, it helps save on the electric bill, used some heat runes on my pots, pans, and plate to help cook and keep food warm." I said.

"I didn't know rune magic could be so useful in every day life. Does anyone else use it in your family?" Lucinda asked.

"Well I learned it from my mom, my sister also learned it." I said.

"Oh so you weren't the only one to learn runes. That's amazing, I um I have a question for you Alex." Lucinda said.

"Ok, shoot." I said taking a bite of food.

"I uh still don't have a place to stay, so would it be alright if I stay here a few more nights?" Lucinda asked.

"Yeah, no problem with me. Do you want to come see my shop?" I asked.

"Really you'd let me see your rune shop." Lucinda said excitedly. We ate breakfast which was way better then anything I ever cooked. "I'm going to go get ready, give me a few minutes." Lucinda said. I nodded, I quickly cleaned the dishes and grabbed my rune engraved jacket that I made. After fifteen minutes Lucinda came down in a cute outfit that complemented her figure. I felt myself blush, I turned away from her hoping she wouldn't notice. "Aww is someone embarrassed?" She teased.

"Shut up, come on let's just go." I said not looking at her. We walked out of my apartment building, as we passed where Lucinda was standing last night she grabbed my hand. "Something wrong?" I asked.

"No, I just wanted to hold your hand." Lucinda said. We arrived at my shop and walked inside, I touched a rune on the wall which lit up the rest of the room. "Wow, that must save you a ton of money." Lucinda said.

"Yeah it does, but it took forever to engrave all these." I said. I led her behind the counter and showed her where I typically engraved different runes. "Alex, I was wondering could you show me what different runes do?" Lucinda asked.

"Sure." I said. After that I started to show her the different types of runes that I had along with what each one did. After that I got a few customers who came and picked up their orders along with some people dropping items off to be engraved. I started the engraving process as Lucinda watched over my shoulder. Once closing time came I finished what I was engraving before getting ready to head back home. "Lucinda are you ready to head back to my apartment?" I asked.

"Sure, but I was wondering if I could buy you dinner first?" Lucinda asked.

"Like a date type dinner?" I asked.

"Yeah, like a date type of dinner." She answered smiling at me.
