Your leather boots thudded happily along the stone aged path, clicking with each timed step. Cracks and zigs zag lines covered the entire street. Leaving space for grass and vibrant flowers to bloom, creating more colour for the eye to see. Mixed wooden and stone stalls stood along the crescent, each meant for a different purpose. Some for food, clothing, souvenirs, some were even selling live animals. Though you ignored those areas, the smell was a tad bit unpleasant. The thought of having an animal caged up to sell for meat or entertainment, didn't rub your gears correctly. Sure you were no vegetarian, but you would much rather have the animal live in an open space. You definitely would prefer that than to be locked in a grimy old cage awaiting your inevitable death, yeah that did not sound pleasant at all.
With a shake of your head, you push those dark thoughts away. Anything to do with death or even the thought of death itself was just too much, gives you 'the shivers and shakes' as your father likes to call it.
Well anyway, now that you're out in the open world, might as well get something for tea.
You walk past a few interesting stalls, some actually caught your eye. Being careful however, some stalls are just invented to be scams. There was one that particularly pulled you into a trance, dragging over your golden like eyes to a sort of twinkle in the midst of the stall. Having a quick gander you realise it was one of those spiritual hippy shops, they have become quite popular over the past few years, its intention to spread peace and prosperity. The idea took a huge liking to you, especially during an event like this.
Though the festival seemed to be for fun, it holds a much darker back story.
"See anything you like lovely?" A more mature and kind woman stood before you, behind an assortment of crystals and chimes. "Well if it isn't (Y/N)". After taking a closer look at you, she smiles making her eyes crinkle slightly.
"Haha, yep that's my name. It's nice to see you again Mrs Everly." You give an awkward nod and fake smile, if you were being completely honest, you don't really remember her at all.
"It's been a while since I've seen you come out of that blacksmith there, you have gotten quite tall haven't you." You haven't grown at all actually, not that you were small or anything, just perfectly average. But, you nod along anyway to her light chatter. "You know, my friend has a son that you might be interested in getting to know. He wants to be the kings guard someday, what a lovely chap." Ah, here we go. Boy talk, the most absolutely useless and boring thing to have ever been conversed with.
Mrs Everly, who was oblivious to your obvious uncomfort giggled anyway, going on and on about this 'boy' she knows and how you would 'get along so well'.
Time to make a break for it.
"Well it's been nice chatting to you," you make a notion of leaving, waving your hands about. "But, I really must be getting something for supper, otherwise father might starve to death." You joke light heartedly, hoping she would understand. Her smile never left.
"Of course lovely, sorry for keeping you hostage, we wouldn't want our best metal worker dying on us now would we." She gives a playful nudge, showing off the youth she still has in her. "But, before you leave, please do take this."
You gasp as she slowly rose her hand, displaying the most beautiful gem you have ever seen. It shone a deep crimson red, light bleeding into your skin as it touched the sun. It was small, but not minuscule, it was like the size of a ring or a thimble. This would go perfect with a golden necklace or even a crown, but you knew that this was just something you couldn't accept.
"Oh no please, I could never accept this." You put your hand on your sachet in a defensive manner, even though you really wanted it, you did not want to seem greedy.
