The Fallen(Nalu)

28- Trapped

Natsu runs towards where the creature slithers its way towards us.

He jumps up at it, fire spreading all around the area making my vision of the fight incomprehensible.

"See, Lucy. This isn't so bad."

I glare over at Happy.

"Don't talk."

He huffs into a pout.

"Fine."

I turn my gaze back over to the fight.

It doesn't look like something Natsu can't handle. It's definitely not that smart...just pretty durable from what I can tell since it's not burnt to a crisp at this point.

This job wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for...

My eyes glance around the dark, slimy cave.

It's dim. The only light comes from Natsu's attacks ahead of us so the light's power fades in and out with his strikes.

The air feels so thick down here.

Droplets of liquid fall from the ceiling occasionally, puddles of water at my feet.

This place just makes me feel so...icky. But even worse...I feel trapped.

The only way out that we know of is the way we came in. I turn around and look at the small entryway.

That's the only way back to the surface.

The ground shakes around me, small chunks of debris falling all around me.

My eyes widen and I swiftly turn my broadened eyes back to Natsu's fight. The creature had crashed into a wall after one of Natsu's hits, showing me just how unstable this place might be.

"Natsu!"

Natsu shouldn't be fighting.

Look how reckless he is.

He's not going to hold back and he might send the whole ceiling crashing down on us.

My fear spikes exponentially as a large chunk of rock falls right next to my feet.

"NATSU!"

He finally stops and looks over at me slightly annoyed.

"What, Lucy? I'm almost done, I swear!"

"You have to stop. You're gonna cause the cave to collapse on us!"

His expression turns more serious as he looks around him, noticing the rainfall of little pebbles throughout the cave.

"I think we should leave, Natsu. It's not safe here."

I anxiously await his response.

My heart rate has increased exponentially at the fear of being locked in down here with no way to get out.

My palms are extremely sweaty and my hands tremble at my sides.

Natsu firmly nods his head.

"You're right. Let's go-"

Natsu gets cut off as the creature hurls itself at him from the darkness. Natsu's body lurches forward from the impact, surprise shown through the shadows on his face.

"Natsu!"

I start running towards where he is, grabbing hold of the whip at my side.

Both Natsu and that thing crash into one of the walls, Natsu seemingly taking most of the hit.

Everything starts to shake around me.

"Lucy, look out!"

Happy's voice yells out from behind me and I look up just in time to avoid a small boulder that hits the ground right next to me.

I gulp and look back over to Natsu who is trying to push the creature's mouth away from him.

I bring my whip out behind me and throw it forward.

It latches around the back half of the giant centipede just barely and I pull with all my might.

It becomes distracted as it goes to tear through my whip with its teeth and Natsu lights up in flame and sends the creature shooting across the room and slamming into the rocky wall.

It falls to the ground with a loud thump that echoes throughout the cave.

The ground shakes beneath my feet and my hands hover in the air around me to try to balance myself.

I sharply suck in a breath of air as Natsu hops his way towards me, avoiding large rocks falling around him.

He finally reaches me and grabs my hand, pulling me back towards the entrance.

"Job well done. Time to go now."

Happy waits for us slightly inside the dark entrance way to this wide area.

I glance ahead and notice the rocks holding up the entrance are cracking due to the lack of structural support from the fight that ensued just moments ago.

"Natsu...."

I tighten my grip around his hand, he doesn't respond but continues to pull me along with determination.

I watch as a boulder larger than us slowly comes undone above the entrance and starts to fall.

"Natsu, we're not going to make it!"

He tenses, his grip tightening almost painfully around my hand.

We get closer to the entrance and my eyes watch in fear as the boulder gets closer and closer.

"Natsu!"

He finally slows slightly and releases his grip from my hand.

I stumble to a stop at the lack of someone pulling me forward.

"Happy, your bag!"

Happy quickly takes his bag off his back and throws it to Natsu. Natsu catches it, turning back to me.

The boulder finally reaches us and Natsu slams into me, pushing me away from it as it covers the entrance that was just out of our reach. A large chain of sounds pierces my ears as the boulder crashes into the ground.

Natsu and I slam into the floor, darkness following as Natsu's flames get snuffed out. My eyes and throat burn as dust fills the air.

I sit up, tears forming to try and clear away the dust settling on my eyes. I bring my hand up to my mouth as a cough leaves my throat.

Rumbling still echoes through the cave and I start to tremble.

We're stuck...

Natsu and I are stuck down here in a collapsing cave...
