Chapter 19

1864

Liam knelt before the corpse of a woman, a vampire, and he sighed before closing her eyes. She was able to escape being taken to the church but was still killed and to make things worse she was only there seeking help from Willow. Hoping to get out of the country to start a new life.

He looked over his shoulder when he heard a noise and saw Damon suddenly wake up, his brother was still unconscious next to him. "He won't work up for a while." He spoke after seeing Damon trying to wake Stefan up and he looked at him.

"Liam? W-what happened? Katherine..."

"Burned along with the other vampires in the church they were taken to. At least she escaped that fate." He said and Damon noticed the woman lying by Liam. He was going to ask who she was but he just realised what Liam said and utter heartbreak set on him.

But then images entered his mind, there were memories he knew he had of his time with Willow but they came with feelings, feelings for her he didn't have but had for Katherine...right? It was starting to feel different when he thought of Katherine then of Willow.

"You look confused, Damon." Liam spoke, snapping the man out of his thoughts. "I'm getting these feelings when I think of times with Willow, feelings that I get when I think of Katherine." He said and Liam frowned.

"These feelings, explain them to me." He urged as he knelt by him. "I'm happy when I hear her voice, see her face, her laugh makes me smile and feel warm, her eyes make me feel safe. I don't like it when she's not around..." He trailed off when suddenly a memory he didn't recognise appeared in his head, "There's something else."

"What?"

"A memory I think, I had an argument with my father and I wanted to see Willow since she could calm me down but Katherine stopped me and..."

"What? Damon, what did she do?" He asked, he had a thought but he needed to be sure. "She told me to forget I ever loved Willow." He said and Liam's eyes widened. "She compelled you." He said as he stood up. "What's that?"

"It's what we vampires can do, it's basically mind manipulation and mind control." He explained. "We? You're a vampire? Why weren't you captured?" He exclaimed as he stood up and Liam frowned.

"Because Emily made me her collect boy to get you and Stefan before you woke up." He said before sighing, "Look, I don't care what you think of me standing here but Katherine altered your mind with a mind compulsion and because you're in transition to becoming a vampire, that compulsion is losing its effect."

Damon frowned at him before sighing, he found himself believing Liam's words thanks to the constant emotions he was getting from just thinking of Willow, speaking of. "Where's Willow? I'd like to see her." He said and Liam sighed.

"She left, Damon. The night of the party."

Willow sighed as she leaned back in her chair after reading some new emails she got. It was from one of her vampires that had been watching that had been watching the witch that had been acting weird, she was hoping for some good news but she obviously didn't get that.

"What's with that sigh?" Damon asked as he walked into the library and she wasn't going to question how she didn't hear him enter the house. "That meeting I had a while ago, one of my contacts reported a witch of mine was acting up so I had her have people watch him. One of them just sent me an email saying he was gone and his place showed he had been sharing classified information to someone."

It's rare for her contacts to betray her because they know what'll happen, it's even rarer for a witch to do so. Usually that happens if they get promised something they think is better than what Willow is already giving them.
