Chapter 21

It was Founder's Day and the students that were doing the parade were dressed up in period clothing. Ambrose was wearing an old suit he had sent over from one of the old houses and was standing with Stefan who was also in an old suit.

Isobel's words rung heavy above the two but they've been able to make things civil and really Ambrose would much rather forget that happened since he knew that was for the best.

"Look at you two, all retro." Damon said as he walked up to them. "What are you doing here?" Stefan asked. "Why wouldn't I be? Bonnie deactivated the Gilbert invention, Isobel is gone and it's Founder's Day! I'm here to eat cotton candy, see Willow in her new dress when she arrives and see Ambrose steal your girl."

"I'm not stealing anything. I won't do anything that'll hurt Elena." Ambrose said. "Good." Stefan said and Ambrose rolled his eyes slightly.

Meanwhile Selene and Willow, who was wearing a long dark red dress, were walking arm in arm outside the school. "Elliot really did well with the dress." Selene commented as she looked at it and Willow smiled. "He did love seeing me wear red. I do wish we were both dressed up."

"Too bad mine aren't in the best condition anymore, but the big skirts would prevent me from doing this." Selene started twirling and dancing with Willow who laughed and she joined in.

She stopped though when she saw Elena turn up in her own period dress and thought she looked so much like Katherine, she then looked in the direction Elena was looking and saw Ambrose, Stefan and Damon all looking at her and she suddenly didn't want Willow to see.

"We should go find Liam. I want to see him all dressed up." She said and Willow frowned, she noticed she had looked at something. "Okay?" She asked and started following Selene, "Actually, I want to see what you were looking at." She said and turned but wished she hadn't.

She had the same thoughts as Selene but when she saw Damon staring at Elena it upset her and made her think of the times she'd catch him doing the same to Katherine.

"I'm going home." She said to Selene and walked off before the woman could say anything.

Selene watched her leave and sighed, just by looking at Willow, seeing the same look she used to wear had Selene think she had reverted back to the old Willow.

Ambrose and Damon had seen Willow leave and they went up to Selene who frowned at them, or more like Damon. "What do you want?" She asked, crossing her arms. "Easy Feisty. What's up with Willow?" Damon asked. "She just saw you staring at Elena."

"Only because I thought she was Katherine." He said. "That's my point, to her you weren't looking at Elena, to her it's the exact same scene she had to see every time she went to see you only to see you with Katherine with that longing in your eyes."

Liam was taking pictures with Caroline when he saw Willow walk off. "Go, she looks upset." Caroline said when she also saw her and Liam looked at her. "I'll be right back." He said before going after Willow.

He caught up with her and stopped her but she wouldn't look at him so he gently moved her so she was and saw tears in her eyes.

"What happened?" He asked. "What happened is I just saw Damon looking at Elena as though she was Katerina, it was exactly like how I had to watch them while I was hurting. Maybe I shouldn't have told Damon I didn't want a relationship yet."

"Hey, no, you did that because you wanted him to know you now. Just as you wanted to do the same for him. I'm sure if you let him say why he was staring at her, it won't be as bad as you think."

"I just want to go home." She told him and he sighed and nodded. "What should I tell him if he's looking for you?" He asked. "That there's no worry of me disappearing." She said before walking off.
