➢ a/n | okay hi all. i just want to thank all of my followers for waiting so long & for being patient with me and this story that i won't shut up about. i've never loved something more than this big baby right here, so please give it some love. i've never written anything this long before, and lord it took over a week and a half to write it + reread + edit it to my complete satisfaction. i've read it so many times that i don't even know if it's good lol. i'm indisputably nervous about posting this... hope you love it as much as i do <3

➢ pairing | peter parker x enemy!reader ; former assassin!reader

➢ trope | enemies to lovers <3

➢ wc | 30k (i'm so sorry, pls i'm crazy)

➢ warnings | angst, guns, injuries (non-severe), crying, murder, mentions of bucky's trauma, cursing (pls tell me if there's anything i missed)

➢ story notes | okay this is technically set in tfatws, but in my heart & head, nobody in endgame died. i'm very much missing my babes, and i felt we could all use a little of their energies, so enjoy them in this ! <3 in honor of tfatws s1 ending this week, i've decided to write this fic that sorta focuses on bucky's trauma. i have an obsession with bucky barnes, so in this fic, he's the reader's best friend hehe. xox

To be quite honest — even if it is a brutal truth — you don't understand what's so great about living in the Avengers Compound. It's too big, too shiny, too crowded. And sure, you could stay in your room all day, but you choose the better option: the training room. Oftentimes, you'll find Steve sparring himself, boxing with the punching bag until it splits open and lays dead on the floor.

You don't ever say hello. You don't wave or wink or even acknowledge that he's in the room. Instead, you grab your own punching bag and go just as hard. You run laps around the building, and you swim in the pool. Sometimes, if you're lucky, Bucky will even train with you, and you'll have an actual sparring partner for once. You don't train with anyone else — anyone that isn't Bucky or Natasha, that is. Sometimes, on a good day, you'll go with Sam or Steve, but those are rare occasions.

You keep to yourself and you keep quiet — until your weekly therapy. Steve made you promise Bucky that if you were to join them in the Compound (after everything with Thanos and HYDRA), that you'd at least go to therapy once a week. He just wanted to help, really and though you didn't see the point, in the end you didn't much care. You complied, though. That doesn't mean you were making any progress.

There are some things you never talk about. The chain around your neck, that you never take off, for example. It's off limits, just like your past and your parents and the tattoo on your right wrist. The scar below your ear is something only Bucky knows about, but even he doesn't talk about it.

And you keep it that way. You keep to yourself and you keep quiet. That was, until Peter Parker moved into the compound. He lives across the hall from you, now. He's your age and he's so infuriatingly annoying that you want to bash his head in, sometimes. You suppose the feelings are mutual, and you don't bother changing that dynamic. It's just another person on your list. You don't give a damn.

But everybody else does, even Peter. The tension and the screaming and fighting doesn't make for peaceful meetings and missions. It's difficult, to say the least.

You're eating yogurt at the kitchen bar, sitting on a stool while Steve makes eggs for breakfast. You suppose the rest of the team will be joining for their own meals, so you try to keep yourself in one spot to maintain your "don't fuck with me" persona. When Tony comes in with a new schedule, it doesn't last long.
