My Happy Ending

Chapter 22

I was standing nervously in line behind my fellow classmates. I was dressed in a graduation robe which was too big and stuffy. I was so excited that we were done with school. I was waiting for my turn to go on stage and get my diploma.

“Aubrey Wilson” I hear my name call out. I walk up the remaining steps to the stage slowly, just so that I don’t trip and fall flat on my face.

I shook hands with our school principle and looked to the left for a picture. I smiled and heard my father and Aiden shout out from the crowd.

I took a seat next to my friend Aimlee, waiting for the rest of my classmates to get their diplomas.

“I now present to you the class of 2014!” our principle says happily.

Everyone stood up and cheered. We took off our caps and threw them in the air.

I searched for Luke through the crowd but couldn’t find him. I walked up to my parents and gave them a hug.

“Mom would be so proud of you kiddo!” my dad says hugging me tightly.

We took a bunch of family pictures to always remember this day.

“I’m gonna go look for my friends” I say rushing off in search of them.

I found them by the stage and we began taking a whole lot of pictures.

“Hey babe” Luke say sneaking up on me.

“Hey you!” I say lifting myself up to give him a kiss.

“Picture of the happy couple!” Skai says grinning.

Luke and I both posed for the picture while Skai almost blinded us with the camera’s flash.

After giving our parents our graduation robe’s we headed out as a group to the after party at fancy hotel in our town. We partied all night.

Luke was driving me home, when he pulled off the side of the highway.

“What’s wrong?” I asked

He turned to look at me.

“I need to tell you something!” he says seriously.

“What? Your breaking up with me aren’t you?” I asked

“No, dumbo.” Luke says

“Oh, then what is it?” I asked nervously.

“I’ve been wanting to tell you for the longest of time, but the time never seemed right” he says holding his hands together.

“Luke, you’re scaring me. Just tell me” I say

He pulls out a small red box.

Is that what I think it is? Shit. He’s going to propose. I wasn’t ready to get married. I really wasn’t.

“Are you proposing to me?” I asked shocked

“No…..”Luke says taking a long breath.

“It’s a promise ring.” He says

“A promise ring?” I asked

“Yes, to show you that I will never leave you!” he says

He paused for a minute before continuing.

“I love you Aubrey. So much. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” Luke says

There was a few minutes of silence. Luke watching me the entire time.

“What do you say?” Luke asks worry etched on his face.

“I love you Luke. And I will follow you, wherever you go!” I say using his line.

He smiled big and crushed me into a tight hug.

“Try it on!” Luke says removing the ring from the box and I held my hand out. He slipped the ring on my finger.

“It’s beautiful Luke” I say smiling at him. I grab his cheeks and give him a kiss on the lips.

“Let’s head home!” he says holding my hand.

“Let’s start our lives together!” I say.

Luke pulls out onto the highway and we drive away. Sorry we weren’t driving away, we were driving through our future together.
