"What the fuck did you do, Nate?" The two teenagers were sat in Nate's truck as they discussed the fact that he had been suspended because of a potential assault on Maddy.
"I didn't do shit, Lee. It's all a big misunderstanding. It was Tyler."
Aaliyah frowned at the name "Who's Tyler?"
Nate looked down "The guy that raped Maddy in the pool at McKay's."
Aaliyah looked at Nate with confusion "Raped? As far as I know, Maddy was the one that suggested it."
Nate looked up angrily at Aaliyah "Maddy told me she blacked out and he had sex with a minor. She also told me that Tyler choked her at the carnival because we were still together."
Aaliyah played with her fingers and looked down "Are you telling me the truth, Nate. Or is this a story you've made up to save your own ass."
Nate grabbed her hand and looked into her eyes as she looked at him "You need to trust me. Tyler is gonna confess and this'll all be over, okay? Then things can go back to the way it was. The police are probably gonna want to talk to you too."
Aaliyah shook her head "They wouldn't. Why would they wanna talk to me?" Nate sighed "Because you saw Tyler drag Maddy out by her hand and you saw him choke her."
Aaliyah pulled her hand away from him and huffed "What the fuck, Nate? This is getting out of hand. If they find out I'm lying I'll get arrested. Is it really worth that much."
Nate caressed her cheek "Listen, Lee. You don't have to do this but if you do...you'll save me and Maddy. You're my best friend...if I knew you couldn't do it I wouldn't have asked. Remember when you covered for me and Maddy when I took her out. You convinced my parents that we were at an after school club. There's something about you that people seem to trust."
Aaliyah put her head in her hands "You can find someone else to do this, Nate. I'm not gonna do this."
Aaliyah grabbed her bag and left the car. Nate had parked about 10 minutes from Fez's store so she decided to walk over there.
Aaliyah felt herself starting to cry as she walked down the quiet street. She didn't understand why Nate would ask something like that of her.
He trusted that Aaliyah wouldn't say anything to anyone and he knew that the only thing he could do to get a witness was to threaten Jules.
When Aaliyah arrived at Fez's store she saw him stacking drinks in the back and she walked up to him with a tear-stained face. "Hey, Fez."
The boy turned around and frowned when he saw Aaliyah's sad face "Is everything okay? You like like you been crying."
Aaliyah looked down "Can I go and chill in the back? I'm not feeling too good."
Fez nodded "Of course. Let me finish stacking these drinks and we can talk."
Aaliyah walked into the back of the store and threw her bag down on the floor.
She sat on a seat and sighed. She waited for about five minutes and Fez walked into the room.
He motioned to the back door "Wanna go outside?" Aaliyah nodded and walked out with him.
The two sat down on the bench and Fez lit a cigarette. Fez took a hit and sighed "You gonna tell me what's wrong?"
Aaliyah shook her head "I don't wanna talk about it."
Fez handed her the cigarette and Aaliyah hesitantly took it from him. She took a hit and looked down "Are you going to Daniel's Halloween party?"
Fez nodded "Yeah. You?" Aaliyah smirked "What do you think? I need to get an outfit though."
Fez shrugged "You ain't gotta dress up. You're scary enough as it is." Aaliyah playfully rolled her eyes "Speak for yourself."
Fez laughed lightly and took another hit.
Aaliyah put a strand of her behind her ear and she smiled at him "I haven't really spoke to you since the carnival. I just wanted to let you know that I don't regret kissing you."
Fez blushed slightly and chuckled "You told me that already." Aaliyah's eyes widened "Shit, sorry. I must have forgot."
Fez grinned "Nah, it's cool. Listen, Lee, I like you...a lot....but you're 17. I could get arrested for that."
Aaliyah looked down "I know. I didn't wanna put you in that position. I don't want to give up something that hasn't even started yet but...if you don't want to be with me then that's fine."
Fez ran his hand through Aaliyah's hair "We can just chill for now but...when you're 18 I'm all yours. The only thing I'm worried about even more than that is your parents. They ain't gonna be happy knowing that they're daughter is dating a drug dealer."
Aaliyah looked up at him and kissed him softly on his lips. She pulled away and nodded "I don't care what they think. They should be happy for me. I'm gonna wait for you."
Fez nodded "Good." Ashtray then walked out to the back and looked at Fez. "Ayo, Fez! We got customers." Fez nodded "Alright. I'll be there now."
Ashtray walked back inside and Fez stood up "You can watch some TV in the back if that's what you want. I can get you some food too."
Fez put the cigarette out and Aaliyah stood up "Yeah, okay. I'll just text my mom and tell her that I'm over a friend's house."
Fez looked down and walked back inside. Aaliyah understood that Fez was sad that she had to lie about where she was.
Her parents wouldn't be happy to know that she was smoking with a drug dealer.
That was what he was afraid of the most.
