When we first watched the anime Nurarihyon no mago, we all felt a surge of excitement at how terribly cool Rikuo Nura's life was. Tales about the young human quarter yokai and his Mafia-like family were just so damn cool that we couldn't help but adore that life.
That was what Reiji felt, how the old him felt when he watched the show.
But living inside it was much more different.
People have died.
But that was also a stupid thought, people also die in reality. No one lives forever, and no one lives a life that fun without risks, there always is. But we don't voluntarily involve ourselves with the mafia, do we? Most of us aren't heirs either, so we had no major responsibilities for dozens of lives.
Well, Rikuo does.
And unlike some egocentric noble tradition where bloodline doesn't actually matter, the Nura bloodline was important, most especially to Reiji. The yokai Nurarihyon was a single individual who built his clan from the ground up for hundreds of years and seeing that crumble was gut-wrenching to him. Reiji wouldn't accept anyone other than a Nura to inherit the clan!
A yokai's blood was important since it also carried the abilities of the originals, and the Nuras were the center of the clan itself. Having others take over, It just felt. . . wrong.
Thinking about his own reasoning, Reiji felt a bit disgusted by his thought, he was being narcissistic about his own blood. But, he really does love the Nura clan. And no matter how selfish Rikuo's thoughts were about distancing himself from his own clan, the boy was just 14, he wasn't taught these important things. No one could be blamed.
And that was more frustrating for Reiji.
.
.
Jumping a few more roofs, Reiji and Tsurara finally arrived at the Nura estate.
Quickly erasing his presence with his fear, Reiji silently followed Tsurara to Rikuo's bedroom. Tsurara frantically slid the door open with a BAM, running over the old man, and bowing to the floor beside Rikuo.
"Gahk-- Tsurara!?"
"Rikuo-sama! I'm sorry for going to school without you! I'm a failure of a bodyguard to go on with my day not even looking for you! What a blunder! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm very very sorry!!"
"No- it's fine! Tsurara please stand up!"
"No it's not--"
"Tsurara no--"
As the two continued in their banter, Nurarihyon was dusting himself from being run over by the snow woman. He was supposed to be the clan head here, now he's just being treated like a stone on a sidewalk. Not like he minds or anything.
"Sheeesh, what an enthusiastic one."
"Couldn't have said any better myself."
Turning his eyes to the corner, Nurarihyon could thinly sense the presence of one yokai. It was Reiji leading on the wall, smiling at his childish grandfather. Though I wasn't completely hiding, he found me quite easily, as expected of the original Lord of Pandemonium. Reiji thought.
"I'm guessing you will start his training now," the old man asked as he stood up.
"Yeah, I'll leave it up to you to inform the others about the deal."
"Very well then, I'll contact you later." Saying that Reiji nodded at Nurarihyon's words.
Prior to the visit, the two had agreed to hold a meeting with the clan's council to discuss some things. Both Reiji and Nurarihyon knew that there would be a lot who would disagree so it would be best if both of them were there to answer any questions.
This matter about the deal was not just personal but also for the two groups. Besides, going to the meeting would also be an opportunity to re-introduce himself to the big leagues, so to say. Mah~ It's going to be fun seeing their surprised faces, especially that one-eyed bastard.
Seeing Nurarihyon suddenly stand up and talk to himself, attracted the attention of Rikuo. Meeting his eyes with his grandson, Nurarihyon sighed with a smile.
"Rikuo, I have heard you answer to become the next Supreme commander. Hence you will start your training seriously, my child." The Yokai spoke with a serious tone, but he was brimming with joy.
"Eh. . EH!? Wait a second!"
Stupid sounds were all Rikuo could say with the sudden declaration, even Tsurara was confused, switching between the confused Rikuo and the delighted Nurarihyon. Seeing the old man's signal and without another word, Reiji revealed himself behind the Supreme commander.
With a smile and a raise of a hand, he said,
"Yo, time to move out of your ass, brother."
