Turning around, Reiji's eyes met with a small old man with a calm expression. He was calmly looking over to Reiji, observing his clothes up until to his face expression.
"You've grown" He said looking over to Reiji's eyes
"I couldn't say the same to you"
Saying that Reiji smirked as he dropped his act and put an arm on his hip, making a lax pose.
"I guess you still have that sharp tongue of yours, grandson."
"Oh, thanks. I didn't expect the great Nurarihyon to notice" He mockingly scoffed.
Nurarihyon simply took nothing of it as even before Reiji turned 5, he always replied with a sarcastic tone.
He then turned around and placed his hand on his back and walked away whilst saying:
"Follow me"
Reiji simply followed and walked right behind Nurarihyon.
After a few seconds of walking, the two arrived in a private meeting room. There, Nurarihyon immediately sat in seiza and sipped some tea the was prepared beforehand.
Placing down the tea, Nurarihyon took a glimpse at the standing Reiji and offered him a seat, to which he declined.
"I think its about time to talk about the matter at hand" Said Nurarihyon
Reiji smiled coldly at Nurarihyon's words and wrapped himself in his own fear. Noticing fear seeping out of Reiji, Nurarihyon looked at him, intrigued at his capabilities.
Covering his whole body, Reiji's clothes and glasses were immediately replaced by his own. He was wearing his blue hoodie and rectangular glasses once again.
Seeing as Reiji retract back his fear, Nurarihyon continued sipping then placed down the cup on the small red stand.
"What an amazing control of your fear, as expected of you, Reiji."
"What did you expect, I used to be part of the Nura clan after all" Reiji shrugged his shoulders with a confident tone.
Nurarihyon felt as if this was a stab in the heart. Reiji saying he 'used to be' really left a bad taste in Nurarihyon mouth. Also added the fact he didn't learn his skill when he was still here.
"Listen, If I had know, I would have prevented-"
"What's done had already been done, there's no turning back time, Jii-san" Reiji replied coolly
Hearing Reiji call him grandpa without venom in his voice, Nurarihyon's nerves calmed down a bit, but regret still filled his heart. Leaning into the wall, Reiji put his hands on his pocket, and with a cold look on his face, he glared at Nurarihyon straight in the eyes and reminisced about his past.
"Do you know how ridiculous it is being kicked out just because I couldn't do what Rikuo could?" He said without a care in the world
Nurarihyon could only painfully look at Reiji with regret and sadness filling his entire being.
"You know, I used to really admire the Nura clan.." Reiji said sadly to which Nurarihyon felt his heart tremble in shame "and it really hurt, when all of a sudden I was thrown away because I wans't good enough. "
Nurarihyon who was listening felt his world crumble and filled with sadness and regret, he held his head in his palm trying to calm his mind with his emotions.
Remembering more of that fated day, Reiji relaxed his body and called his mind, dropping down into the floor, he let out a deep breath.
"I was barely 5, when they left me all alone." He said solemnly "I was thrown out because I couldn't use the sword properly... thats really stupid you know?" Laughing wryly at this, Reiji once again remembered his past.
He could see a small version of him cover in wounds, gripping a wooden sword tightly, never letting go of it.
He was hitting a wooden pole, practicing his strikes. Unknown to the tiny him, two large yokais were observing him from the back, shaking their head in disappointment.
"No, the form is all wrong, he's holding on the sword too tightly, he doesn't know how to hold it." one criticized
"His strikes are imbalanced, he doesn't have the strength.. he's weak." the other replied
Going back to the present time, Reiji scoffed at this and smiled wryly once again.
Nurarihyon looked at Reiji sadly, he wasn't able to do anything. He simply stood there and watched it all happen, and in a blink of an eye, Reiji was gone.
He couldn't believe he let the helpless Reiji just disappear all of a sudden.
After a bit of silence, Reiji spoke once again.
"I admit I was very weak back then, I probably looked sickly as well.. but they didn't give me a chance." he shrugged "I was even branded as a reserve for Rikuo if he dies. Ridiculous isn't it?"
Reiji looked at Nurarihyon, who didn't reply but only listen, and continued talking.
"That's for disappointing them, I guess." He muttered.
Having enough with their chitchat, Reiji looked at Nurarihyon seriously, removing all sympathy he felt for himself.
"Now that were done with the small talk, let's get straight to the point shall we?" he said coldly as he picked up the sword beside him.
"That.. was small talk" Nurarihyon muttered to himself, surprised.
With a soft yet cold smile, Reiji tilted his head to the side and spoke to his grandfather cheerfully, whilst emitting an intimidating aura.
"Let's make a deal why don't we, Jii-san!"
