"and i'm pretty sure that you are that love of mine"

DESPITE NEWT'S CLEAR OUTLINING of the rule explicitly stating "no slackers," lyn spent the rest of the day moping around with a constant frown on her face, partly due to the fact she'd had a fraction of the sleep she should've the previous night — especially considering she'd been through an ordeal and a half in the day leading up to it — and partly because she had no idea what to do with herself as the newcomer.

the girl had been perfectly peaceful lying on chuck's hammock as she reflected on the events of the preceding 24 hours, when her limited bliss was swiftly and inconsiderately disrupted by the familiar tone of minho's speech.

her eyes whipped open rapidly as she felt his voice echo down her ear. whenever she heard it, no matter the mood or the circumstance, it made her feel secure. safe even, though that might have been a stretch since they were still surrounded by monsters living in a seemingly impossible maze. regardless, she let her thoughts fade and listened to what the boy was trying to say, still distracted slightly by his mesmerising brown eyes.

"so. any other questions? i'll be honest, i came here hoping to see you helping out with some of the work — though i can't say i'm really surprised. you don't look much like the sort to be getting down and doing all that if given the choice." he looked at lyn, who had yet to move from her horizontal position on the hammock, before cocking his head and narrowing his deep eyes slightly. "you don't even know what you look like, do you?"

lyn took a second to think about it, and shook her head slowly. how completely absurd, laughable even, is it to not even recognise your own facial features? she said to herself harshly. the thought cut into her confidence like knives, making her realise how powerless she was and how much control the "creators" had over her life.

her life, yet she didn't even know if she'd ever truly have the chance to live it.

minho smiled. he recognised her pain and knew what she was going through, and that in itself made lyn feel like she had someone she could confide in. every other boy in the glade had been through what she had, yet in the strangest way possible, minho was different.

"get up," he said in a way she knew wasn't controlling, nor arrogant, nor rude. she knew she could trust him. she knew he trusted her to a degree. she knew he had an irrational fear of bugs (he'd told her during her tour). she knew so much about him already, yet at the same time knew absolutely nothing.

she rose from her place on the hammock, nearly falling as she did, and made her way to stand opposite him. her feet, separated from the mossy floor by the thick soles of her already worn-out boots, were a mere few inches away from minho's. she could feel his breath as it tickled her face, making her cheeks tingle. she was only hoping they hadn't tinged pink.

"to start, you're quite tall." that was obvious, but minho still had to tilt his head down to see her, and even on her tiptoes she wasn't at his height. "your nose is nice."

"thanks for that."

he rolled his eyes again. "if you aren't going to be grateful for all the effort i'm going through for you right now, i'll just leave you here and you can go on not knowing what you look like."

"no, carry on." lyn looked at him nervously. "please."

his gaze left her eyes and returned to her other facial features. "your nose — it's got a little bump in it, but it suits you." lyn's lips turned up at his words, and he conveniently looked to those next. "your lips are nice too. oh, and your hair is quite long. you already knew that though."
