Author's POV

Two hours before...

Elena climbed the steps to Alaric's door, and tapped lightly on it. She came to bring him some breakfast, muffins to be exact. Although, that wasn't the real reason she was here. She wanted to check up on him, since he has been taken over by his evil twin lately.

The door clicked open, only to reveal a smirking Damon, "Morning, sunshine."

"Hey, how's Alaric?" Elena made a move to walk past him, and into the apartment but Damon was faster and stood in her way.

"Indecent but fine", he answered.

"So then, does that mean there were no issues last night?"

"Nope. Slept like a baby. Woke up Alaric. No head minds about dead council members."

Elena's eyebrows furrowed, "Then, why do I feel like you're hiding something from me?"

"Well, maybe because you're being all paranoid and control freaky. What'd you bring me?" He gestured to the food, Elena had brought. He pulled the bag out of her hands and sniffed at the contents. "Ooo. Chocolate muffins. You know what they say, a way to a psycho killer's heart is through his stomach."

Elena snatches the muffins from his hands, "They're not for you."

"Fine. Keep convincing yourself, you're still mad at me. But sadly, Ric's gonna have to miss Elena time today. You know? Lock down, and all."

Elena did not want to get into that discussion with Damon, right now. "Just take it and give it to him, and tell him that I miss him, okay?" She passed the bag of muffins back to him.

"With pleasure", Damon's smirk grew bigger.

"Please."

As Damon began to close the door on her, he spoke, "Have a great day. Thanks for coming by."

"Dam...", Elena was cut off, by Damon completely shutting the door, and turned to face Alaric and Stefan. They were both stood next to a saw, and the Wickery Bridge sign. Damon stopped just before the other two men, and held his hand up.

"Walking down the stairs, opening the front door, and she's gone", Damon smiled.

Alaric switched on the saw, and bought it down onto the sign.
..........

Stefan held up one of the many white oak stakes they had just created. "This needs to have a sharper point", Stefan examined it closer, and handed it over to Damon.

"I got it", Damon muttered.

"We finally have our own stakes, to kill an original. I'm not gonna miss because you can't whittle", Stefan remarked.

"I said I got it. Stop micromanaging", Damon spat back, and started to sharpen the point of the stake.

"Looks like you guys have got this under control. I'm gonna call the sheriff", Alaric slipped on his jacket.

The two brothers watched him closely.

"I want to turn myself in", Alaric cleared up their confusion.

"No, you don't", Damon bluntly replied.

"I have a homicidal alter ego. Unlike some people in this room, I would like to take responsibility for the people I've killed", Alaric bit back.

Damon rolled his eyes, "If you wanted to turn yourself in, you wouldn't be saying it out loud. Just saying."

"Hey, listen", Alaric snapped, "Out of all the people, you cannot psychoanalyse me. I killed Caroline's father, I nearly killed Meredith. Everything's changed."
