"You sure sound a little jealous, Klaus", George moved closer from behind me so that I could feel the warmth of his body against mine.
"I've been gone for a week and you've already settled in."
"Well, trying to", George's lips tilted upwards in a grin.
"Why were you gone?" I subtly stepped away from George.
"I had to do some thinking." Klaus' eyes were trained on his twin's.
A bark of laughter erupted through the forest. "You? Thinking?" Kol appeared from behind a thick tree trunk.
"Oh, bloody hell", Klaus muttered. "You were supposed to stay at the house."
"Well, I've never really been good with orders now, have I, brother?"
"I believe you haven't met our brother, Kol", Klaus raised his eyebrows.
"Ah, the destructive one."
"So you've heard of me?"
"This is what you were doing? Looking for Kol?" What sort of plan had he thought up this time that could mean bringing the insufferable brother into it?
"It turns out my elder brother just couldn't stay away from me much longer. Who can blame him? The rest of our siblings must have bored you stiff all these years. And may I say, Ashley. I honestly think you could do a whole lot better", Kol's eyes jumped between me and George.
My cheeks were burning red, as I replied with, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Mmm-hmm."
"Ashley, you should head on back home", Klaus' face appeared friendly and somewhat kind but his tone left no room for argument.
"It's getting pretty dark, do you want me to walk you back?" Kol smirked with a darkness laced in his voice.
"I think I'll be fine." I sped off back home before Kol came up with any sinister ideas.
..........Klaus' POV
"You like her." I stated to George. A horrible feeling clenched my heart as I thought back to the scene I had just walked in on. It made me want to cause true and ruthless pain to the man stood in front of me.
"I'm not purposely going after your girl, Klaus. I just like her company", he shrugged casually.
"It's funny. That's exactly what I used to tell myself whenever I was around her. She is a rather beguiling creature, don't you think?"
"Oh, most definitely agreed", Kol grinned beside me. I sent him a torturous look, and his smile grew twice as big.
"I found out some very interesting things during my trip to Chicago."
"Quite an insight." Kol quipped in.
"When were you planning to tell me about your evil plot against Ashley?" I felt my jaw tick with aggression at the thought of Ashley trusting this bloody idiot.
"What evil plot?" George frowned. "I would never harm Ashley."
"That's not what you're friend, Mason said", Kol stepped forth. "And he had a lot to say."
George tensed at the mention of his friend. "Mason? What the hell did you to him?"
A quick flashback of the tortured werewolf back in Chicago ran through my head. "We went through a steady process to get your friend to spill a few beans about you. Kol here had to kill him to get him to shut up in the end."
"He squealed like a fat mouse", Kol chuckled to himself.
"You killed him?! He did nothing to you, you bastards!" George seeped with anger.
"Word of advice, find some loyal friends when you're planning a murder that would most definitely affect me." I stepped closer trying to intimidate the insect that stood before us.
Ever since he'd heard about Mason, George had looked lost. "You can think whatever you like about me, but I wouldn't harm her."
"Mason told us you came looking for a key to release your pack from a curse that was cast on you all since the beginning of time. The curse of losing your mate after you bond? I know all about it."
"Yeah, so? That has nothing to do with Ashley."
"You're either a very good liar or your really don't know the consequences of destroying the curse."
"I say he's a very good liar." Kol piped up.
"Are you gonna tell me what you know or are you gonna toy with me a little longer?" George spat with anger.
Kol tutted and shook his index finger at George. "Impatient much? Enjoy this moment with us, will you. Do we have any bourbon before the finale begins?"
"Your pack will be very disappointed they've come all this way for nothing. There's no way in hell you're getting that key, brother. The key to all your problems is the one thing I will not hand over to you."
"You have the key? Where is it? And what the hell's your damn problem? As soon as I get the key I'll leave town for good."
"My problem is your bloody key happens to be Ashley, and I've heard what happens to the key to eradicate your pathetic curse! I won't let it happen." I glared into his eyes as they were took over with a look of horror.
"You're lying. It can't be Ashley."
"Oh, it is. Now, you have a decision to make because you're going to have a pack of angry wolves on the loose while Ashley hasn't a damn clue. You need to choose a side. I've seen you watching Ashley from afar, I know you care for her, but I also know the loyalty you show to your friends, you would do anything to make their lives better. There will be a war of sorts and you need to know who you'll be fighting for and who you'll be slaughtering. And be warned I will kill any one and any thing who dare go near her."
"Ooh. Choose wisely, George", Kol rubbed his palms together through excitement.
George's torn expression showed all the emotion he was feeling in this moment of time. Klaus was very curious as to how far he'd go for Ashley. Was he as enchanted by her as Klaus was? He didn't know what to think but he did know he wasn't about to let any harm come to his girl.
George's eyes flicked between me and my brother, and after a moments hesitation he fled the woods, leaving a deadly silence behind.
"What happened?" Kol jumped up. "Who's side is he on?"
I stared straight ahead. "I guess we'll find out."
