Author's POV

Klaus was working on his next painting, in his living room. He swirled the paint brush up, and around the girl's hair who was on his canvas. He was working on the light browns that always showed up, under the sunlight. The girl on his canvas could only be Ashley Brinn, the girl he just couldn't keep away from.

He heard Rebekah enter the room, from behind him. "What took you so long?"

"Alaric didn't want to hand over the stake", she held the stake up for her brother to see. "Luckily, I'm quite the charmer."

"That's it?" Klaus had given her his whole attention by now.

"The last of the white oak stakes that can kill us. Do you want to do the honours or shall I?"

Klaus places his paint brush down, next to his others and grabs the stake from his sister's hands. Of course I want to do the honours, Klaus thought. He threw the stake into the flames of the fire, and they both watched it burn until it was no longer there.

"Well, that's that then", Rebekah/Esther faked a relieved sigh.

"Pack your bags, we're leaving", Klaus demanded.

"Today?"

"Why not? There's nothing keeping us here", Klaus lied. The thought of her was stuck on his mind. He had to move on, and get away from here. He couldn't let feelings get in the way of his life, he had a reputation to uphold. "We'll grab the doppelgänger, and be off by sunset."

"But tonight is the decade dance", Rebekah cut in. Esther had the perfect plan waiting there, and her son was about to screw it up.

"So?", Klaus shrugged.

"So, I'm head of the committee, we have to go", she needed this to work.

We? Klaus thought. No way was he going to any petty dance, tonight. Mainly, because the girl he had already asked to go with had shot him down for some other dick. He wasn't about to watch her dance with another guy for the rest of the night. "I'm not going to any dance."

"Caroline will be there", Rebekah persuaded.

"That means nothing to me", he shot back.

"Please, I have big plans for tonight. Just go for me", she pleaded.

A thought flickered through his mind. A plan. He couldn't believe he was reducing himself to this, but he couldn't help it. He wanted to make her jealous. If he danced with Caroline all night, would she notice? It couldn't harm any if he tried. "Okay, fine. One last hoorah."

"One last hoorah, Nick", Rebekah/Esther smirked.

Ashley's POV

"Soo...", Sammi hadn't stopped staring at me, throughout the whole lunch hour.

"Soo...?", I prompted for her to go on. She obviously had something to say, say it already. I took a large bite into my peanut butter sandwich, waiting for her to speak.

"You have a date for tonight?!", she squealed in disbelief.

"Huh?", I mumbled through my food.

"Klaus said you had a date. Who is it?", her eyes grew wider.

"I'mff oing wi woo", my words were incoherent with a mouthful of my sandwich.

"... What?"

I swallowed my food, and repeated what I had just said, "I'm going with you, remember? You and Iva are my date."
