chapter thirteen, THE POGUE'S FOUNDING PRINCIPLE

Elaine was exhausted, mentally mostly. The girl had spent the majority of the day thinking about her girlfriend Bianca. Feeling guilty about the fact she couldn't decide if kissing John B was cheating or not. She had been cheated on once, and sure it hurt but she didn't love the boy.

Her mind wandered, wondering if Bianca would have wanted her to move on, they never got the chance to talk about anything like that. One second she was being kissed before Bianca went to work and the next she was answering a phone call from a man saying she had died on the scene. She didn't even make it to the hospital.

She hadn't talked about Bianca's death much. Sam knew. It came out in a conversation. He asked how the girl was doing and as bluntly as possible his sister responded 'dead' It was cold and monotone. She didn't sound like a human with feelings.

He didn't pressure her to talk about it, he didn't do any digging, and he just left it at that.

"They're showing this outdoor movie tonight, wanna come?" Kiara asked, the question making Elaine break from her thoughts and look up at her.

"uh, yeah. I'll come" Elaine said with another forced smile. Maybe deciding to shut out every person wasn't the best idea. But she'd hold them further out, she'd build stronger walls. The pogues weren't the worst people to spend her time with, she just couldn't let herself forget her past and what kept her safe.

Kiara and Elaine left the room, the new comer's eyes resting on the corner of the dresser. Under the wood board was a box. That's where she had Bianca's shirt. She just wished she had more to put in that box. More physical things to remember her by.

Elaine shut the bedroom door, leaving the memories behind for the meantime as she walked behind Kiara. She was a good friend, but every time Elaine had mentally prepared herself to open up and give herself a pep talk, she'd back down.

JJ and Pope were waiting outside for the girls, a smile plastered onto Elaine's face when she saw them. "Have fun!" Sam yelled out, waving at them. "We will" Kiara laughed as she called back. Elaine turned and waved goodbye to the boy as she shut the door.

"I'll get the drinks," Elaine told the pogues when they got to the field, accepting the excuse to be alone for a few minutes. Kiara nodded and told the boys she'd come with while they picked their spots. Elaine didn't protest, in an attempt to not raise suspicion from the pogue.

"Can I get a lemonade and 3 Pepsi's please?" Elaine asked as she walked over to the concession stand, pulling some money from her pocket. Kiara grabbed her hand, stopping the girl from paying and putting down money on the table herself.

"here you go ladies, enjoy the movie." The concession stand worker told them and they smiled. "thank you" Elaine said as they turned to leave, trying to find where the boys sat.
