Mumbai's local trains have always given a whole new meaning to the concept of overcrowding. Most of the time, one would find trains literally overflowing during peak hours, with commuters spilling out of the doors, windows, and every nook and cranny. Wherever they got a foothold or even a toehold, you would find someone hanging on because that is how life in Mumbai was. Even if everyone griped and grumbled about it, everyone knew local trains were the lifeline of the city.

Standing at the crowded railway station and watching people practically jump inside of the moving trains just to get 'a seat', Avika realized how little she knew about the worldly struggles. Even though traveling for a long distance without getting a seat seemed like a big problem, she did not understand how getting a seat was more important than their own life. She promised herself that even if she had to travel standing throughout the journey, she would never do the stupidity of risking her life like that.

Breaking her gaze from the crowd, she glanced down at her wristwatch. It was five minutes for six. Soon enough the station would start crowding as people would get off from work. All in a rush to reach home as early as possible.

They should've left sooner.

"Let's board a fast train. We will reach sooner" Viraj suggested keeping his phone inside his jeans pocket, breaking Avika's train of thoughts.

"Then Tej will have to board another train" Avika frowned, recalling their conversation from yesterday.

Trisha looked at Tej "Where do you live?"

"Andheri but I am going to Dadar since I have to get something" Tej said, making Trisha smile widely at him.

"Perfect!"

"Let's get in warna we won't get to sit" Viraj urged.

Avika moved closer to Trisha and leaned in "Are we traveling in the general compartment?" she asked, lowering her voice.

Trisha nodded. Avika's eyebrows shot up in bewilderment "What? No!"

"Yes. We are" Trisha said firmly as she grabbed Avika's hand and entered the train with Tej and Viraj behind them.

They quickly walked over to the empty seats to their left side and sat down. While Avika and Trisha sat on one side, Tej and Viraj sat across them.

"I am glad the train isn't that crowded" Trisha said as she opened her backpack and retrieved a bag of blue Lays.

"People are yet to arrive and mostly, you get to sit in Churchgate since it's the first station of the western line" Viraj said.

"And yet people jump in a moving train for a seat" Avika remarked looking outside the window at the bustling station.
