"Hey, how have you been?"
"Just fine I guess?" Anirudh's voice came through.
"You guys are coming back tonight, right?" Trisha asked as she picked her backpack from her study table and started to stuff her books in it.
"I actually called you for that. We will be staying here for another week"
She paused. "What? Why? Is everything okay?" her voice, laced with concern and worry.
She heard him sigh "Ajji has typhoid and you know how Mom gets when Ajji is ill. She won't leave until Ajji is alright"
"So you will be staying there until she's all good?"
"I think we will be staying here until next Sunday. Aarohi's school starts on Monday of that week so I doubt Mom will make her skip"
"And what about Avi? That bitch hasn't called me at all since our last conversation" Trisha grumbled.
"Didn't you guys talk last night?"
"Did we? I don't... Ah! Yes, we did. I miss her like crazy!! What does she do there the whole day?"
"She hangs out with Aarohi and binge watches kdrama with her"
Trisha's eyes widened, "Don't tell me even Aarohi has started to like it"
She heard him scoff "Well, she's still a kindergarten kid who can barely form sentences in English so of course, she doesn't read the subtitles but she loves watching it even if she barely understands what's going on. Thanks to that she leaves Mom alone"
"Ah! I almost forgot she's a Mumma's girl. But I think I understand your Mom a bit. Your grandmother is the only living parent of hers so she gets worried easily and she is a daughter who lives far away from her mother —"
"Powai isn't far, Trisha. It's still a part of Mumbai"
"It's in the suburbs, asshole. Get your facts straight"
"Okay fine! It's in the Mumbai suburbs but still, it isn't that far. Barely an hour or two by car, I think"
"Tell me something. You and your Mom live in the same house, right? Still, when you are ill like you know you have typhoid or malaria, doesn't your Mom worry? When you're in pain, I bet she doesn't get a wink of sleep and I am sure when your Mom falls ill you also worry yourself to death and you want to be there by her side at least"
"Okay. I get it. I understand but sometimes it worries me that she panics so easily over Ajji's health. I am sure Avika told you how we barely packed our clothes and rushed here on Monday night"
Trisha hummed in response "If you are worried about her, take care of her. Be a good son to Mahima Auntie. Varun Uncle is a huge support for her and so is Avika. You should try being that too. Isn't that what family is?"
