Epilogue
“Jess are you almost done!?” I hear my mom yell from downstairs.
I look around my now empty room and feel my heart sink. Summer was officially over and it's time for me to go to college. Charlotte and I decided on going to UC Davis together, majoring in Biology. Up until about two seconds ago, I was super excited to go, but seeing my room so empty left a huge whole in my heart.
“Almost!” I shout down to my mother, who was tapping her foot obnoxiously downstairs.
“Well hurry, Charlotte is waiting out in the car,” I can sense a change in her voice, but I ignore it, thinking nothing of it.
I look around my room. My desk and shelves are completely bare, the covers stripped from my bed making it look like no one ever lived in here. I feel tears forming in my eyes thinking how I may never be back here. I find my mind wondering to the Jefferson boys.
Its been three weeks since I came back from their summer house and I haven't seen or talked to any of them. I found myself thinking about Nate all the time, but whenever I did all I felt was sadness and depression, so I tried to stop thinking about him all together. I reach up and grab the necklace he gave me in my hand and squeeze it tightly, hoping it would give me strength.
I hear footsteps coming up the stairs and I roll my eyes. My mom could be so impatient. I close my eyes and sigh, opening the door.
“I said I'd be down soon mom,” I say opening my eyes, looking annoyed.
Instead of my mom standing in front of me I see a boy, I see Nate. I feel my heart instantly fill up as I look at him. I stare at him for a few moments, my mouth hanging open like a fish. He reaches up and closes my mouth with his hand.
“Thats not an attractive look babe,” he says stepping into my room.
“W-what... how...huh?” I stutter, not knowing what to say.
He smirks down at me, raising his eyebrows.
“No hello? No, Nate I've missed you so much!” he says, raising his voice to sound like a girl.
I smack him lightly on the arm and scowl.
“I do not sound like that!” I huff, crossing my arms in front of my chest.
He smiles and pulls me into a hug, squeezing me tight. I instantly hug him back, wrapping my arms around his neck, pulling him closer. I inhale his scent, not realizing how much I've missed it until now.
“If you won't say it then I will,” he says, sighing, “I've missed you Jess.”
I smile and kiss his neck lightly, feeling him shiver underneath my touch.
“I've missed you too,” I whisper, feeling so overcome with emotions.
He eventually pulls away and I feel myself missing his body against mine. I stick my lip out and pout at his sudden departure.
“You're cute when you pout,” he says, running his thumb over my bottom lip. I shiver under his touch and a smirk appears on his face.
“Wait, what are you doing here?” I ask, confused.
He puts his hand over his heart, in fake astonishment.
“You mean you don't want me here?” he asks, faking hurt.
“Of course I want you here,” I chuckle, “I just don't get why.”
“I've come to tell you the news,” he says, his face falling.
I feel my heart sink at his sudden change of emotion, dreading the worst. I clench my fists together tightly, preparing myself.
“I'm switching colleges,” he says quietly.
I feel my heart drop into my stomach. I find myself thinking that he must be going out of state and tears begin to sting at my eyes. I wipe them away, annoyed and grab his hands.
“To where?” I ask, barely audible.
“Davis,” he says, a smirk coming back onto his face.
My eyes widen in shock as I shove him away.
“You ass!” I yell, annoyed, “You had me worried! I though you were going to another state or something you jerk!” I say rolling my eyes.
“Sorry,” he says, trying hard not to laugh, “I just love messing with you,” he says, pulling me in close to his body.
I run my hands through his soft hair, playing with his hair on the back of his neck.
“Your such a jerk you know that?” I ask, smiling up at him.
“I know,” he says, taking my hand and kissing my palm lightly, “But you love it,” he whispers in my ear.
He brings his lips to mine and kisses me briefly before pulling away. I whimper at his absence and look into his eyes.
“Time to go,” he says, grabbing my bags and hoisting them over his shoulder, “After all, we have a new chapter of our lives to begin...” he says pausing, looking deep into my eyes, “Together,” he whispers.
“Together,” I nod, giving him another kiss before taking one last look of my room and walking downstairs to an awaiting Charlotte.
I find myself now looking forward to the adventures that lie ahead. I get to spend the best years of my life with my best friend and love of my life. I feel Nate take my hand and feel my insides heat up. Whatever the future may hold, I'm just glad I get to spend it with him... with the boy I love.
The End!!!
