Chapter 9
“Wake up sleepy head!”
I slowly open my eyes and see Nate’s face right in mine. I snap my head back and a jolt of pain shoots down my neck.
“Ouch,” I whimper my hand caressing the back of my neck.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“What do you want?” I growl.
“It’s time for the game.”
“Oh joy,” I say in my best sarcastic voice.
He rolls his eyes and extends his hand towards me. I gratefully take it and he easily pulls me to my feet. He pulls me outside and I see Blake and Landon sitting across from each other, a plate of hamburgers in the middle.
“Yummm.” I lick my lips.
I walk over and take a seat next to Blake and Landon and grab a hamburger. It has everything I like already on it cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, onion, ketchup, and pickles. I take a big bite and sigh from its deliciousness. I look up and see all three boys looking at me holding back laughter.
“Shut up, I’m hungry,” I say.
“Well hurry, we want to start,” whines Blake.
I quickly stuff the rest of my hamburger down plus another before we finally get started.
“So does anyone want to tell me what this game is?”
“It’s a version of truth or dare,” Nate says.
“What kind of version?”
“Well, we go around the circle and ask whoever we want truth or dare. If the person doesn’t want to answer the question they have to remove an article of clothing,” Landon says.
“I am not playing this,” I say, trying to stand up.
Blake grabs my hand.
“Don’t be a chicken Jess,” he says, looking at me with his puppy dog eyes.
“Fine,” I huff.
“Yeahy!” Blake says.
“So who’s going first?”
“I’ll go,” says Landon.
“Okay.”
“Nate, truth or dare?”
“Truth.”
“Do you like Jess?”
Nate’s face turns stone cold as he removes his shoes. My heart breaks a little when I see the look on his face but I quickly recover and keep a blank expression on my face.
“Alright my turn,” Blake says rubbing his hands together. “Jess, truth or dare?”
“Truth,” I say.
“Do YOU like anyone?”
I blush and remove my shoes.
“Jeeze someone needs to answer,” Blake complains.
“Landon truth or dare,” I say smiling.
“Dare,” he says challenging me.
“I dare you to strip naked and jump in the lake.”
“But the lakes freezing.”
“I don’t care,” I laugh.
“You just want to see me naked.”
