Chapter 10
I mostly keep to myself for the last three days of the trip. I go for runs early in the morning till late afternoon. I run until I feel better and until all the thoughts are cleared from my head which usually takes a while. When I finish my runs, I swim in the waterfall where the boys never are, to clean the sweat off of me. I usually stay up there until my fingers turn wrinkly. Then I stay up on the hill to watch the sunset and the stars.
When I am finally done, I head back down the hill when the boys are already asleep, and quietly climb into bed.
When it is finally time to go, I throw on my stretchy pants, a tank top, and my blue vans. I quickly pack up my stuff and throw it in the car. I sit in the car, plug my headphones in, and crank up the volume. I lay my head on the window and pretend to be sleeping while everyone else gets in the car.
I know it's very childish of me, but I am so tired of trying, I just want this trip to be over so I can lock myself in my room and never come out. Yes I am a drama queen but I don't care, I think I've earned the right to be.
The whole ride home, I keep my headphone lodged in my ears with my eyes slightly open so I can see the scenery change around me. We go from the mountains and trees back to sandy beaches in no time at all and for a moment I wished I could have stayed.
I feel someone lift me up out of the car, but I am too tired to open my eyes. I am carried into the house and up to my room. I open my eyes a little and see I am in Landon's arms. He gently places me in my bed and pulls the covers up around me. As soon as he leaves my room, I get up and lock both doors into my room. I won't be leaving for a while and I sure as hell won't let anyone in either.
