Chapter 21
Landon's point of view
I hear her scream and my heart completely stops.
"Jess! Jess!" I yell into the phone.
I get no answer. I am so close to the house but it's not close enough. I step on the gas and fly home. I keep thinking about what's happening to Jess and I am scared. I hope she's alright, she better be alright.
Once I arrive at the house I fly out of the car and run up to her room. When I get there I see a tall man, about six feet holding Jess by her neck. She is trying to shove him away but he is to strong for her. He is wearing black cargo pants, a sweatshirt, and black shoes. I look into Jess' eyes and I can see her getting weaker by the second.
I run over to her. I can tell he hears me because his grip on her tightens as he turns around. I punch him directly in the nose, grab him by the front of his sweatshirt, and throw him off of her. Jessica's eyes are closed but I can see her chest slowly rising and falling with her breathing.
I turn towards the guy and beat him. I can't stop myself from punching his face continuously. If he seriously hurt her I don't think I would have been able to stop myself from killing him. I am hitting him so hard the blood is spilling out of his nose and mouth. His face is already turning purple and red, but I still can't stop.
I feel someone grab my arm and I jerk around thinking it is another robber, but it is a police man. I was so angry and shut down that I didn't hear them come in.
"Son, that's enough," the crop says sternly pulling me off the man.
I let him take me away from him and watch as they hoist up the guy and haul him out the door.
I look over at Jess who is still passed out on the bed, a medical team looking at her. I start to walk over to her but I am stopped by another hand grabbing my arm.
"Son, we need to get a statement of what happened here," another cop says.
"Can I just," I say motioning over to Jess who is now opening her eyes.
"No, we need to get this done then you can go see your friend."
"Fine," I say angrily.
The cop leads my down to the kitchen and sits me down at the table.
"I am Officer Clark and you are?" he asks raising his eyebrows.
"I'm Landon Jefferson and this is my house."
"And the girl upstairs is?"
"Jessica Smith. She is staying here with my family this summer."
Officer Clark begins writing stuff down on his little pad of paper.
"Now can you start from the beginning? What happened?"
"Well Jessica called me and asked me if I was at home. I told her I was out getting my painting supplies and I asked her why. She said that she heard someone in the house. Then I heard a huge bang and I made another call to call you guys. I told her to get under the bed which she did. I got in my car and raced home and when I was halfway here I heard her scream on the phone and at that moment I knew he found her. So when I got here I went upstairs to help her."
"What was he doing upstairs?"
"Well when I got there he was on top of her, holding her down with his hands around her throat. He was choking her and I attacked him because I couldn't let him hurt her."
