I was playing around in the structure, hearing Logan and Virgil talk above me. It seemed as if Virgil had brought the book he was working on, and Logan was helping him revise it. From what I had heard, and what Virgil had told me, the story looked good.
Apparently, the main character was a girl who had the power of dark magic even tho she was borned in the side that "fought for good". The story consisted on the girl learning the truth behind her powers, but most importantly, defiding society. Throught all the plot, Virgil had been complaining about the expectations that society put on all kinds of people, and the story was about the girl fighting against common believes and realicing how the world isn't black and white.
According to Logan, the ideas are fine, but also cliche. He thinks that the plot should be more original. Virgil dissagrees. In fact, they're arguing about it right now. I think that they are both right at some extent. The argument of the story may seem cliche, specially the first part, but in the next one the story took an unespected turn, and the characters themselves where original, giving extra points to Virge.
My attention shifted to Roman. He was sitting on the swings, but he wasn't moving. He was staring down at his phone, apparently texting someone. This wasn't like him. Or at least, not like he used to be. Even tho Virgil and Roman had dated for a while, I was the one who knew Roman better. I was his best friend. And that's why I know as a fact that there's something going on with him.
Roman was still. He wasn't moving, he wasn't interacting with anyone, he wasn't being active. Roman's always full of energy, but lately, he spends all his day on the phone. I understand that moving on after a breakup is difficult and all, but i don't know... There's something off with him.
I jumped off the structure and started to walk towards him. Roman then put his phone on the pocket of his leather jacket and closed his eyes, facing up at the sky. He still hadn't seen me walking towards him.
"Roman?" I said, in an effort for him to notice me. In fact, he did. He opened his eyes, and blicked in cofusion for a bit, probably blided by the sun. Once his vision focused, he noticed how I was going next to him.
I saw on the free swing, and started to move my legs up and down, impulsing the swing to move.
"Want something Patt?" He asked, turning to look at me
"I just want to talk," I replied.
"Something in particular? Any topic you have in mind?"
"Well, yeah, there's one that I think we should discuss..." I answered, feeling bad for the turn that the conversation was going to take.
"Which is...?"
"You, Roman. I'm concerned about you," I said. I think this caught Roman by surprise. He stared at me, but then he looked away, as he started to swing as well.
"I don't know what you are talking about,"
"Roman, please, I just want to help. I know you've been down since your breakup with Virgil, but lately it seems as if it's only gotten worse. I just want to know what to do to help you feel better. if there's anything I can do, please, just tell me. I'd do anything for you," I said, and I felt my voice sound strange in my mouth.
Roman didn't answer. He just kept swinging, going further and further up. I sighed, feeling bad. I shouldn't've asked. It had been a bad idea. This was none of my buisness, wasn't it?
I stopped my swing with my feet, causing some of the sand that was uderneath it to create a dust cloud, "I'm sorry Roman, I wasn't trying to be intrusive. I just worry too much, don't I?"
"It's ok, I understand," Roman answered, still not looking back at me, "But trust me when I say that there's nothing wrong,"
"But-"
"Patton, let it go," Roman insisted, "If I needed something, I'd tell you."
But that was a lie. We both knew. Roman had stayed all day in his room yesterday, and he hadn't texted me, not even once. I had always been there for him. When he was doubting if he should date Virgil, he came to me. When he needed help with his brother, I was the one who tried to keep it all together. When he decided to break up with Virgil, I had been the one who he trusted, and he had asked me to help him through emotionally, he asked me to be there for him.
And I was. I try to be there for him. I want to help him. I know that he isn't ok, so why is he trying to push me away now!
"I love you, Roman. And now matter what, I'm here for you," I said, in an effort to re-connect with him.
"I know," Was all he said.
None of us said a thing then. I was still sitting, Roman was still swinging. I sighed and stood up. There was no use in trying. This was my fault anyways. It's my fault that this is all like this. It's my fault that Roman is acting like this, and, right now, it didn't look as if there was anything I could do to fix it.
"Come on," I said, not talking to anyone in particular, "More kids are starting to arive, I don't want them to have less fun because of us,"
hehe patton angst go brrrrrr
he sad boi, just trynna help depresso frend
(just in case it wasn't clear, Patton feels guilty for the situation. The whole plot of With You revolves around him, creating a lot of stress. To refresh your memory, Patton was the one who told Virgil to ask Logan out, he helped Logan plan the outing to the caffee to meet Janus, he told Virgil and Roman to go for it when they where unsure on dating, he was with Logan when they caught Janus cheating, he's the one who helped Roman in his plan on breaking up with Virgil, and he's the one who helped Logan in his date with Virgil. In other words, Patton feels guilty for getting in his friends buissness and causing them pain. He still wants to help, which isn't working out rn)
Until the next time, take it easy guys gals and non binary pals!
