"Hey Roman! Sorry if I'm late, but I couldn't find my notebook," Patton said as he got in through the door. He was carrying a blue notebook, as well as a bag which I asumed contained his own wool and kniting needles.
"Don't worry 'bout it Padre. Come in, sit on the sofa, I'll go get my own notebook," I told him as I started to go towards my room, "Any movie in particular you'd like to watch?"
"No, you can pick the one you prefer!" I heard Patton yell from the living room
I got to my movie shelf and looked for a good one to watch. It was nearly Christmas, meaning that a Christmas movie would be the best option. I scanned the shelf, trying to figure out which disney movie we could watch. Suddently something clicled in my head. I grabbed the case and ran back to the room
"I got the movie!" I exclaimed, putting the CD on the TV.
"Great! Which is it?" Patton asked, as he aranged the wool by colour
"The rise of the guardians!" I replied, sitting next to him.
"The rise of the guardians...? That isn't disney, isn't it?" Patton asked, looking away from the table.
"It's from Dreamworks, but it has holiday energy, and we are making Christmas sweaters, so I think this is the best one we can watch," I explained.
"Alrigh then! That makes sense to me!" Patton smiled. I tried to smile back, but somed seemed... wrong. I brushed it off, "What are your ideas for the sweaters?"
"Oh, yeah! Um..." I looked through the pages of my sketch book, trying to find the one were I had the sweater designs, "Here you go,"
I gave the sketch book to Patton. In it, I had filled a total of 4 pages filled with sketches, each page had at least 3 ideas. On even more pages, I had drawn the designs I had liked the most, roughtly coloured with my pencils and markers. Patton stared at the pages, his eyes wide open.
"These look awsome!" He said.
"Huh?"
"The drawings! They are so good!" He repeated, going from one page to the next one, "I'm always surprised by your creative talent Roman!"
"Well, um, thanks," I said, not seeing why this was such a big of a deal. Patton already knew my drawing skills. And these sketches wheren't that good. He was probably exagerating it to make me feel better about myself. Not the best aproach.
"Why does this Logan one have the coloured squares?" Patton asked, pointing to one of my final designs, "I thought it'll be more space or science related."
"I'm glad you ask. It's inspired in the De Stijl movement. Once, we where watching an art documentary together, and he mentioned how much he liked that movement, as, apparently, it's a cleaner and moderated contrast to the excesses of art deco..." I started explaining, but something in by brain told me that info-dumping Patton wouldn't be the best idea, "...so I thought he'd like it."
"I think it's so sweet that you remembered that detail! We should deffinetevely stick to this design," Patton said, as he focused his attetion back on the notebook, "Altho I'm not so sure about the Virgil designs..."
"Oh, really?" I asked, coming closer to him to figure out better what he meant.
"Yeah... I'm not sure the final ones have the right vibe. I don't like my designs either, so I think we are a bit lost for this one..."
"Um, maybe you find something you like in the sketches? I didn't get all of my initial ideas to the final designs, maybe there's something else you find interesting or-"
"How about this one?" Patton pointed to one of the sketches that I had made in the third page
Crap. Seriosuly, it had to be that one, didn't it? I had made this design about a week or two ago, on one of these days that I got where I regreted all my life decisions. In this case, breaking up. I had been remembering all the good times I had spent with Virgil, and ended up designing a christmas sweater because I was listening to the holiday music from the street.
The first sketch was messy, but there was a cleaner version next to it, badly coloured, with the only intention of brainstorming. The design consisted of a mostly purple sweater, but it had a drawing made with black, grey, white and yellow colours, making the pattern of a storm. It was quite abstract, but I had to admit that the idea was cool. The issue with it was the reason I had designed it that way. Virgil... he was my little stormcloud. That's where I had gotten my inspiration. Stormcloud, that nickname I loved so much, the way I used to call him when he was mine... I took a deep breath discretly, so Patton wouldn't notice my disstress.
"Well, if you like it, we can make it. It doesn't matter which one we do as long as we have fun," I said, thanking my drama class for giving me the skill of hiding emotions.
"It's settled then! How about you do Virgil's and mines, and I do Logan's and yours? That way we both get to make our presents!" Patton sugested.
"Alright!" I faked a smile, "Sure you don't want to use your designs tho?"
"Well, I think yours are much better. And either way, I'll use the design I did for your sweater, so all good."
"Perfect. I'll be putting the movie then," I grabbed the remote and put the film, trying not to look at Patton. This was our night together. We where going to have fun together. I couldn't let my stupid face ruin anything.
I'll cut this here. Just as last chapter, this one could go on, but I don't feel like it. There are still a few things that should happen this day between Roman and Patton, but I think I should leave that for later because I say so.
Until the next time, take it easy guys gals and non binary pals!
