"Good morning Virgil!" I exclaimed when my roommate got out of his room, still with his pajamas
"Hey there Pat," He groaned, sitting down at the table.
"Here's your coffee kiddo," I said as I gave him his MCR cup
"Thanks," Virgil got his cup and started drinking it.
I continued preparing lunch, today's food being pasta. I had taken over the responsivility of making everyone's lunch, as I loved cooking, and this being way my friends wouldn't waste unnecesary money. I had made sure of buying garlic bread for Roman, I knew that he prefered his spagetti with garlic bread.
Virgil stood up and walked towards the sink, ready to clean his empty cup. Before he did, he grabbed one of the cookies I had baked yesterday and started eating it. One of the cute things about Virgil is how the only moments he wasn't wearing his makeup was first hour in the morning and late at night, those two being the only moments of the day where that black eyeshadow didn't cover his eyes, and even tho the eyeshadow made his eyes look bigger, he looked much softer withoutt it.
"Oh, Patton, I have to tell you something," He said once he shallowed the cookie
"And what is it?" I asked
"Next week friday I'll come back home really late, so don't wait for me up, and don't get worried," He replied.
"Is that so? What are your plans for friday night?"
"I- I'm going to stay the night with Logan," Virgil cheecks where now tinted with a slight shade of pink
"Oh, really?" I smiled, turning to look better at my friend, leaning on the kitchen counter.
"It's not what you think!" Virgil rushed to add.
"And what's what I'm thinking then?" I asked. Virgil's face was now red. I laughed, "Alright Virgil, chill, I was jusk jocking. What are your plans with Logan then?"
"There's a meteor shower at night, and we have planned to go to a nice place to enjoy the view," Virgil explained, still blushing.
"That sounds amazing!" I exclaimed, "And so romantic, staring at the stars at night..."
"Yeah, I know," Virgil smiled, "Logan says that he'll bring a vehicle or something so we can go to the countryside, or at least outside of the city so there isn't air pollution and we can see the sky better."
"You are so lucky to have someone like Logan who cares so much about you," I said, happy for my friend.
"Heh, I know,"
We stayed in silence for a little before Virgil spoke again.
"I should start to get ready, I don't wanna go to class like this," He gestured to his clothes.
"Oh, sure, go ahead. I should also focus on the pasta, I don't want to burn the sauce or anything," I added, focusing my attention in the food once again.
---
"How are you doing today Ro?" I asked my friend as I gave him his lunch box.
"Alright. How 'bout you?"
"All good," I answered.
Roman stopped to put his lunch box in his back bag before start walking again.
"So what's for lunch?" He asked.
"Today we have pasta! I made sure to get you some garlic bread," I told him.
"Great! I love garlic bread. Thanks Padre," Roman exclaimed.
We walked for a while in silence before I asked a question which i feared asking.
"You've heard that Logan and Virgil are going out next week, haven't you?" I asked.
Roman's mood inmediately shifted. You could sense the energy flowing out of his body, his self steem and confidence lowering down.
"Yeah, Logan mentioned. A meteor shower, sounds fun..."
"Hey, don't get sad, I have a great idea on what we can do while they are gone! We can also have our own special evening!" I rushed to say before Roman's spirit got down too fast
"What do you mean by that Pat?" He asked, looking at me.
"Well, Christmas is almost here, and I thought that maybe we could continue with our little proyect, now that these two aren't here and can't interupt us," I proposed.
"Good idea! I finished doing the designs and all!" Roman exclaimed, his face brightening up.
"Great! I've also done some designs, but I bet they aren't as good as yours," I laughed, "You knew how to knit, right?"
"Yup! I buyed some wool of the colours I think we'll need, I have them hidden in my room," He said.
"In that case, we can go on friday directly to your place, get the knitting patterns and start working on it! We can also put a disney movie for background noise, and we could have so much fun!"
"Alright then, it's settled! Next week friday after class we go to my place and start preparing the Christmas presents!"
I smiled, glad that I had been able to help Roman's mood. It was obvious that his mental health wasn't exactly the best, and even tho his breakup with Virgil was the main cause of this donwfall, I suspected that now, his issues wheren't just that. One of the things I had learned from listening to Emile is that the world isn't as easy as it seems. It may look as if there's only one thing is the one that's causing a problem, but that's superficial. There are always more things underneath the surface. And if I'm able to find what's really making Roman feel like this, maybe I can help him feel better.
When Patton is a bit of a "background" character because none of the plot points revolve around him, but if you look closer, he's the one who supports all of the plot points and actually has to do loads in the story, even tho he stays in the shadows...
what I'm trying to say is that Patton deserves much more credit than he gets, because he's the dad, the one that keeps the family together. But as it happens with most "parental figures", he doesn't apear much.
My boy deserves better
Until the next time, take it easy guys gals and non binary pals!
